My machine keeps cycling power. What can I do?

Description of Solution 200000040987

If the machine will not power on, refer to the solution "My machine has no power. What can I do?"

1. Verify the machine power cord is not plugged into a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) or power back up. Remove all other connections from the machine (USB cable, Ethernet cable, phone line).

-         If the machine is connected to a UPS or power back up, power off the Brother machine using the switch on the right side. Plug the machine power cord directly into a wall outlet and securely into the back of the machine. Continue to STEP 2.

-         If machine is not connected to a UPS or power back up, power the Brother machine off using the switch on the right side. Verify the power cord is securely plugged into the back of the machine. Continue to STEP 2.

2. Power the machine ON using the switch on the right side of the machine.

-         If the machine powers normally and was previously connected to a UPS or power back up, it is recommended to plug the machine directly to the wall outlet or a standard surge protector as the machine can drain the battery backup quickly.

-         If machine powers normally and was not connected to a UPS or power back up, continue to STEP 3.

-         If the machine continues cycling power, test the power outlet with a different device. Test the electrical outlet with another device (a working lamp, radio etc.). If that device does not work, the problem is related to the outlet or circuit. Another option would be to connect the Brother machine to a verified working outlet (tested with a working lamp, radio, etc).

3. Connect the USB, Ethernet cable, and /or the phone line one at a time and power cycle the machine after each cable is installed.

NOTE: Make sure that the USB cable is not plugged into the front USB port of a computer. In some computers, the front USB ports do not have the same capabilities as the back USB ports, so they are not compatible with many devices.

-         If the machine powers on normally after each cable is installed, discontinue troubleshooting.

-         If the machine begins power cycling after powering on when a cable is installed, test the connection with a different device.

-         If the second device does not power on or power cycles, the port on the computer or cable may be damaged and will need to be replaced.

-         If the second device powers normally, proceed to WARRANTY AND SERVICE OPTIONS.
