Why does the hammer strike a character multiple times when I only press the key once?

Description of Solution 200000041466

There are two occasions when the typewriter will strike multiple times with only one key press.

1.    When using the correction feature, the hammer will strike three times for each letter corrected.  This feature will remain selected only until the completion of the selected operation.

a.    This feature is selected by pressing the CORRECT, the W OUT key or the CODE and L OUT key.

b.    For EM series typewriters, the feature is selected by pressing the CORRECT, W OUT or the ALT and the L OUT key.

2.       When the typewriter is in the BOLD mode, the hammer will strike three times for each letter.  This feature will remain selected until it is turned off.

a.        This feature is turned on or off by pressing the ALT and the "+" key on the portable personal typewriters.

b.       This feature is turned on or off by pressing the CODE and the "0" key on the EM series typewriters.
