How do I clear the "Wrong Paper [Size]," "Wrong Paper #1," or "Wrong Paper #2" message from my Brother machine's display?

The "Wrong Paper #1" or "Wrong Paper #2" message will appear on your Brother machine's Touchscreen if the paper is incorrectly positioned in the machine's paper trays, or if the paper you have loaded does not match the Paper Size setting programmed in the machine.

 

 

 

 

NOTE:

 

- If the "Wrong Paper" message is appearing when you are setting up the machine for the first time, refer to the solution: "How do I clear the message 'Wrong Paper' from the display during initial setup?"

 

- If the "Wrong Paper" message is appearing when you are printing envelopes, refer to the solution:"How do I load envelopes into my Brother machine?"

 

- If the "Wrong Paper" message is appearing when you are printing from the manual feed slot, refer to the solution: "The 'Wrong Paper' message appears when I attempt to print from my Brother machine's manual feed slot. What can I do?"

TO CLEAR THE "WRONG PAPER" MESSAGE, FOLLOW THESE STEPS:

 

1. Do one of the following:

 

- If the machine displays the message "Wrong Paper #1," click here.

 

- If the machine displays the message "Wrong Paper #2," click here.

 

 

Make sure the paper is correctly positioned in Tray #1

 

The "Wrong Paper #1" message is most commonly caused by paper being incorrectly positioned in the paper tray.

 

Follow these steps:

 

a. Make sure you have correctly positioned the paper in Tray #1.

 

- You must load Letter-, A4-, or Executive-size paper into Tray #1 in landscape orientation.

 

 

 

 

- You must load Ledger-, Legal-, Folio-, or A3-size paper into Tray #1 in portrait orientation.

 

 

- For more information, refer to the solution: "How do I load paper into my Brother machine's paper trays?"

 

b. Press OK on the Touchscreen to clear the "Wrong Paper" message.

 

c. Go to STEP 2.

 

 

Make sure the paper is correctly positioned in Tray #2

 

The "Wrong Paper #2" message is most commonly caused by paper being incorrectly positioned in the paper tray.

 

Follow these steps:

 

a. Make sure you have correctly positioned the paper in Tray #2.

 

- You must load Letter- or A4-size paper into Tray #2 in landscape orientation.

 

 

 

 

- You must load Ledger-, Legal-, or A3-size paper into Tray #2 in portrait orientation.

b. Press OK on the Touchscreen to clear the "Wrong Paper" message.

 

c. Go to STEP 2.

 

 

2. Test the machine by printing the same document you were previously trying to print.

 

 

3. Do one of the following:

 

- If the machine prints the document, the issue is resolved.

 

- If the machine displays the "Wrong Paper #1" or "Wrong Paper #2" message when you attempt to print again, go to STEP 4.

 

 

4. Press OK on the Touchscreen to clear the "Wrong Paper" message.

 

 

5. Do one of the following:

 

- If the machine displays the message "Wrong Paper #1," click here.

 

- If the machine displays the message "Wrong Paper #2," click here.

 

 

Make sure the Paper Size setting matches the paper you have loaded in Tray #1

 

To set the Paper Size for Tray #1, follow these steps:

 

a. Press .

 

b. Press the displayed paper size for Tray #1.

 

c. Press PAPER SIZE.

 

d. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW to display the paper size options.

 

e. Press LETTER, LEGAL, LEDGER, A4, A5, EXE, A3, or 4" x 6".

 

f. Press .

 

g. Go to STEP 6.

 

 

Make sure the Paper Size setting matches the paper you have loaded in Tray #2

 

To set the Paper Size for Tray #2, follow these steps:

 

a. Press .

 

b. Press the displayed paper size for Tray #2.

 

c. Press PAPER SIZE.

 

d. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW to display the paper size options.

 

e. Press LETTER, LEGAL, LEDGER, A4, or A3.

 

f. Press .

 

g. Go to STEP 6.

 

 

6. Test the machine by printing the same document you were previously trying to print.

 

 

7. Do one of the following:

 

- If the machine prints the document, the issue is resolved.

 

- If the machine displays the "Wrong Paper #1" or "Wrong Paper #2" message when you attempt to print again, go to STEP 8.

 

 

8. Press OK on the Touchscreen to clear the "Wrong Paper" message.

 

 

9. Verify your Brother machine's firmware version:

 

a. Press .

 

b. Press .

 

c. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW to display Machine Info.

 

d. Press MACHINE INFO.

 

e. Press FIRMWARE VERSION.

 

- The Touchscreen will display the current firmware version.

 

f. Do one of the following:

 

- If your machine's firmware version is H or higher (H, I, J, and so on) and your machine is within warranty, you can locate a Brother Authorized Service Center (ASC) in your area by clicking on the link below:

- If your machine's firmware version is A through G, you must update the firmware.  Follow these steps:

 

i. Refer to the solution:"How do I perform a firmware update or firmware upgrade on my Brother machine?"

 

ii. After following that solution, go to STEP 10.

 

 

10. Test the machine by printing the same document you were previously trying to print.

 

 

11. Do one of the following:

 

- If the machine prints the document, the issue is resolved.

 

- If the machine displays the "Wrong Paper #1" or "Wrong Paper #2" message when you attempt to print again and your machine is within warranty, you can locate a Brother Authorized Service Center (ASC) in your area by clicking on the link below:
