My printed documents are light, dull or not vivid. How can I improve the print quality?

1. Print a Print Quality Check Sheet (PQCS):

 

a.    Press the 4 color columns on the touchscreen. 

b.    Press Test Print.  

c.    Press Print Quality.

 

d.    Press OK. A Print Quality Check Sheet will be printed.

 

e.    Study the PQCS; there will be four color blocks (Black, Yellow, Cyan and Magenta) made up of dotted lines. Check the quality of the four color blocks on the sheet.

 

 

f.     The LCD asks you if the print quality is OK, press the red X to return to the standby display.

 

-         If all the lines are clear and visible, as shown under "OK", continue to STEP 2.

 

-         If you can see missing short lines as shown under "Poor" refer to solution:"How do I clear white horizontal lines on printed documents?"

 

NOTE: Missing lines in the color blocks can result in light print or horizontal white lines. The troubleshooting included in the solution will assist in both reported print quality issues.

 

-         If all of the dotted lines are in place, but the lines are dull and NOT vivid, go to STEP 3.

 

 2.  Light, dull print can occur when printing from the PC, copying or printing from a media or memory card. Refer to the necessary solution listed below:

 

-         Light print when printing from the PC, refer to solution: "When I print a document from my computer, the text is dull, light or faded. What can I do?" 
 

-         Light print when making copies, refer to solution:  "How can I improve my Brother machine's copy quality" 

-        Light print when printing from a media or memory card, refer to solution: "How can I improve the quality of the images I print from my Brother machine's Photo Capture Center?"

3. Perform a User Reset Purge of the affected color. 

a.    Press FAX to display the numerical key pad.  

b.    Press and hold the  (approximately 7 to 10 seconds) on the Touch Panel until the display changes to show the Serial #, ROM Version and Pages printed.   

NOTE: Some of the LED'S on the Touch Panel may turn off when you press the HOME key. This is normal. Continue to hold down the key until the display changes to show the Serial #, ROM Version and Pages printed (see image below). 

c.    Press and hold the blank rectangle displayed under "3. Print Page" for approximately 2 seconds.

 

 

-         The Touch Screen LCD will display a numerical, alphabetical or machine function chart. The example below is the numerical chart.

 

 

d.    Using the number keys on the Touch Panel press *, 0, # in that order.  The Touch Screen LCD will display "0 Maintenance" in the top left corner.

 

     

e.    Press 7, 6, 5. The LCD will display "uRESET_P ALL". 

f.     Press the LEFT ARROW at the bottom left corner until the display shows the 4 arrows displayed on the top row of the chart. See images below 

-         If the affected color is Black, press the LEFT or RIGHT ARROW on the top row to display "uRESET__P Black" 

-         If one or more of the 3 colors (Yellow, Cyan or Magenta) are affected, press the LEFT or RIGHT ARROW on the top row to display either "uRESET_P Magenta" or "uRESET_P Cyan" or "uRESET_P Yellow" in the left corner of the touch screen. 

-         If Black and any color combination (Yellow, Cyan or Magenta) are affected press the LEFT or RIGHT ARROW on the top row to display " uRESET__P ALL" in the left corner of the touch screen. 

g.    Press MONO START on the touch screen. The machine will begin a cleaning cycle. 

h.    Once the cleaning cycle has completed print another Print Quality Check Sheet: 

i.      Press the 4 Color Column Icon on the Touch Screen.

ii.     Press Test Print

 

iii.    Press Print Quality

 

iv.   Press OK. A Print Quality Check Sheet will print.

 

 

-         If all the dashes are clear, visible and vivid as shown above, select YES on the LCD.  The issue is resolved.  

-         If all of the dotted lines are in place, but the lines are dull and NOT vivid as shown above, press the red X and continue to STEP 4. 

4. Perform a Power Purge of the affected color.     

a.    Does the machine display INK LOW or CANNOT PRINT?

-         If the Home screen is displayed with no error messages, continue to STEP b.

-         If the display does say INK LOW or CANNOT PRINT, refer to WARRANTY AND SERVICE OPTIONS

b.    Press FAX on the Touch Screen LCD to display the LEDs on the Touch Panel.  

c.    Press and hold HOME  (approximately 7 to 10 seconds) on the touch panel until the display changes to show the Serial #, ROM Version and Pages printed. 

NOTE: Some of the LED'S on the Touch Panel may turn off when you press the HOME key. This is normal. Continue to hold down the key until the display changes to show the Serial #, ROM Version and Pages printed (see image below). 

d.    Press and hold the blank rectangle displayed under "3. Print Page" for approximately 2 seconds.

-         If one or more of the 3 colors (Yellow, Cyan or Magenta) are affected, press the LEFT or RIGHT ARROW on the top row of the chart to display "POWER__P Magenta" or "POWER__P Cyan" or "POWER__P Yellow".

 

-         If Black and any color combination (Yellow, Cyan or Magenta) are affected press the LEFT or RIGHT ARROW on the top row of the chart, to display "POWER__P ALL". 

h.    Press MONO START located in the top right corner of the chart. The machine will begin a cleaning cycle.

i.      When the cleaning cycle is complete print another PQCS:

i.      Press the 4 Color Columns on the touch screen.

 

ii.     Press Test Print.

 

iii.    Press Print Quality.

 

iv.   Press OK.  A Print Quality Check Sheet will print.

 

-         If all the dashes are clear and visible, as shown under "OK", select YES on the LCD.  The issue is resolved. 

-         If a USER RESET and a POWER purge have been performed and the print quality has not improved continue to WARRANTY AND SERVICE OPTIONS
