The machine is successfully joined to my network wirelessly, but during the software installation for Windows I receive the Wireless LAN Setup Wizard instructing me to join the machine to the network again. What can I do?

NOTE: Make sure that the computer is on the same network as the Brother machine otherwise the installation will not be successful.  Contact your computer manufacturer or network admin for information about your computer's network connection.

 

You may perform a Custom Install to resolve this issue.

 

 

1.  Print a network configuration sheet to obtain the machine's wireless settings.

 

a.    Press Menu.

 

b.    Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW to select Print Reports and then press OK.

 

c.    Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW to select Network Config and then press OK.

 

d.    Press Black Start or Color Start.  The network configuration list will now print.

 

NOTE: The Brother machine must already be successfully joined to the network with a valid IP address.  An invalid IP address would be all zeroes, an APIPA address (169.254.x.x) on an Infrastructure network, or an address within an incorrect range for your network.

 

If your machine is not successfully connected to the network then this solution does not apply.  Join the machine to the wireless network and then attempt to reinstall the software.

 

2.  Ensure there are no active Firewalls, Anti-virus software, or security applications that may block the installation.

 

3.  If the current installation is stalled at the Wireless Device Setup window, end the installation.

 

4. Make sure the CD is in the drive and browse to (My) Computer and then double click on the Brother disc or MFL-PRO Suite icon to run the CD again.  If you are using the downloaded software, restart the installation from the downloaded file.

 

5. For CD users, the CD-ROM main menu will appear.  If prompted, select your machine and language.

 

6. Click Install MFL-Pro Suite.

 

 

7. If the Brother License Agreement window appears, click YES if you agree to the Software License Agreement.

 

8. Choose Wireless Network Connection, place a check in Custom Install and click NEXT.

 

 

9.  Select Change the Firewall port settings to enable network connection with the installation. (Recommended)  Click Next.

 

NOTE: If you are using a firewall other than the Windows Firewall or the Windows Firewall is off, then click OK when you receive the firewall warning screen.

 

 

You will need to open the following ports:

 

-      For network scanning, add UDP port 54925.

-      If you still have trouble with your network connection, add UDP port 137 and 161.

 

10. When prompted to Select Features, choose the features that you would like to install and click NEXT.  The available options will vary depending on the model of your machine.

 

 

11.  Make a selection for Register your PC with the "Scan To" functions at the machine then click NEXT.

 

 

12.  You may select a Scan To name and select to Enable PIN Number Protection, then click NEXT.

 

 

13.  You may choose one of the following methods to specify your Brother machine:

 

-       Specify you machine by address (Advanced Users) – Enter the IP address of the Brother machine in the space provided and click NEXT.

 

-       Specify you machine by name (Advanced Users) - Enter the Node Name of the Brother machine in the space provided and click NEXT.

 

 

14.  The installation of the Brother drivers will automatically continue.  The installation screens appear one after the other.  Do not cancel any of the screens during the installation.  It may take a few moments for all screens to appear.

 

NOTE: If a Windows Security screen appears, click the check box and click Install to complete the installation correctly.

 

15. If you receive the Environmental Advice for Imaging Equipment screen, read the message and then click Next to continue the installation.

 

16.  When the On-Line Registration screen is displayed, make your selection and follow the instructions. Then click Next to continue the installation.

 

17.  If you do not want to set your machine as the default printer, uncheck Set as Default Printer and then click Next.

 

18. When the second Setup Complete window appears, you may enable (check) or disable (uncheck) any of the following settings as desired and then click NEXT to continue the installation:

-      Brother Product Research and Support Program – Help us plan enhancements to our products.

 

19. Select Yes, I want to restart my computer now.  Click Finish.  After restarting the computer, you must log on with Administrator rights.

 

20. When the computer restarts, the following screens will appear:

 

-      When the Software Update Setting screen appears, choose the software update setting you wan and click OK.

 

-      If the Brother Product Research & Support Program starts up, follow the on-screen instructions if you would like to participate.

 

-      You may receive an option with a link to the Brother Help site where you can find answers to frequently asked questions.

 

NOTE: Internet access is required for the software update and the Brother Product Research & Support Program.
