How do I clear the message "Replace Parts Drum"?

Description of Solution 200000045796

Brother strongly recommends that customers do not use generic drum units and/or toner cartridges, or refill their Brother toner cartridges. Each Brother laser printer is designed to work at pre-set temperatures that are matched exactly to each of our individual toner formulations. Each individual component is designed to work with the other to ensure quality and reliability. Using non-Brother supplies may affect the hardware performance, print quality, and machine reliability. The Brother limited warranty does not apply to any problem that is caused by the use of unauthorized third party drum units, toner cartridges, or toner.

If the machine continues to display the message "Replace Parts Drum", the drum unit has reached the end of its life and a new DR720 drum unit will need to be installed. The yield of a drum unit is approx. 30,000 pages (A4/Letter single sided pages). Please purchase and install a new drum unit.

NOTE:

- DO NOT touch the surface of the drum unit. If you touch it, it could degrade the print quality.

- Damage caused by incorrect handling of the drum unit may void your warranty.

1. Press the front cover release button and then open the front cover.

2. Take out the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly by pulling on the handle in the middle of the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly.

NOTE: We recommend that you place the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly on a piece of paper in case you accidentally spill or scatter toner.

WARNING: After you have just used the machine, some internal parts of the machine will be extremely hot. Wait for the machine to cool down before you touch the internal parts of the machine.

IMPORTANT: To prevent damage to the machine from static electricity, DO NOT touch the electrodes shown below.

3. Push down the green lock lever on the right side of the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly and then lift the toner cartridge out of the drum unit.

NOTE: Handle the toner cartridge carefully. If toner scatters on your hands or clothes, immediately wash it off with cold water.

WARNING:

- DO NOT put a toner cartridge or a toner cartridge and drum unit into a fire. It could explode, resulting in injuries.

- DO NOT use flammable substances, any type of spray, or an organic solvent/liquid containing alcohol or ammonia to clean the inside or outside of the machine. Doing so could cause a fire. Instead, use only a dry, lint-free cloth.

- Be careful not to inhale toner.

NOTE: To avoid print quality problems, DO NOT touch the shaded parts shown below.

NOTE:

- Be sure to seal up the drum unit tightly in a suitable bag so that toner powder does not spill out of the drum unit.

- Go to http://www.brother-usa.com/environment/tonerinkdisposal.aspx for instructions on how to return your used consumable items to the Brother collection program. If you choose not to return your used consumable, please discard the used consumable according to local regulations, keeping it separate from domestic waste. If you have questions, call your local waste disposal office.

4. Unpack the new drum unit.

5. Put the toner cartridge firmly into the new drum unit until you hear it lock into place. If you put it in properly, the green lock lever will lift automatically.

6. Put the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly back in the machine. Do not close the front cover yet.

When you replace the drum unit with a new one, you need to reset the drum counter. DO NOT reset the drum counter when you only replace the toner cartridge.

1. With the front cover still open, press Clear.

2. To confirm you are installing a new drum, press 1.

3. When the LCD shows Accepted, close the front cover of the machine.
