The wireless printer is connected to the network. How do I install the printer driver in Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, or  8.1?

1.    Ensure that you are logged on to your computer with Administrator rights. 

 

2.    Verify the Brother machine is powered on.

 

3.    If you have the supplied CD-ROM and your computer has a CD-ROM drive, go to STEP 6.

 

If you do not have the supplied CD-ROM or your computer does not have a CD-ROM drive, you will need to download the software from the Brother web site. Continue to STEP 4.

 

4.    For instructions on how to navigate the Brother website to download the Full Driver & Software Package, please click here.

 

5.    Choose your Language/Country and click OK.  Go to STEP 9.

 

 

6.    Put the supplied CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. If the model name screen appears, choose your machine. If the language screen appears, choose your language.

 

NOTE:  If the CD does not automatically run, browse to (My) Computer and then double click on the Brother icon to run the CD.

 

7.    Click Install Printer Driver.

 

 

8.    Choose Yes to check for a newer version of the software (requires Internet connection). Click Continue.

 

 

9.    After reading and accepting the License Agreement, click Yes if you agree to the terms.

 

 

10. Choose Wireless Network Connection and click Custom Install. Click Next.

 

IMPORTANT: Make sure to check the Custom Install box, otherwise it start the wireless setup instead of the printer driver installation.

 

 

11. Choose Brother Peer-to-Peer Network Printer. Click Next.

 

 

12. Choose Change the Firewall port settings to enable network connection and continue with the installation. (Recommended).  Click Next.

 

NOTE: If you are using a firewall other than the Windows Firewall or the Windows Firewall is off, then click OK when you receive the firewall warning screen.

 

 

13. Verify Network Printer Driver is selected. Click Next.

 

 

14. Choose Search the network for devices and choose from a list of discovered devices (Recommended) and click Next.

 

 

15. Choose your machine from the list, and then click Next.

 

 

NOTE: If the No devices error window appears:

 

a.    Cycle the power on the Router or Access Point for about 15 seconds.

 

b.    Wait 1 minute. It is very important to wait 1 minute before continuing. If you do not wait at least 1 minute, the Brother machine may not have enough time to join the network and receive an IP address.   

 

c.    Click OK to close the window.

 

d.    Click Refresh to search the network again.

 

e.    If the Brother machine is still not found on the network, Refresh once again and wait 1 more minute. If the Brother machine is still not found, click Cancel and setup the machine on the network once again.

 

 

16. The installation of the Brother drivers will automatically continue.  The installation screens appear one after the other.  Do not cancel any of the screens during the installation.  It may take a few moments for all screens to appear.

 

NOTE: If a Windows Security screen appears, click the check box and click Install to complete the installation correctly.

 

17. When the User's Guides screen is displayed, you can click View Manuals on the Web to view the user's guides.  Click Next.

 

 

18. Read the Environmental Advice for Imaging Equipment message. Click Next.

 

 

19. When the On-Line Registration screen is displayed, you can click Brother Registration and follow the on-screen instructions.  Once you have completed the registration or if you have already registered your Brother machine, click Next.

 

 

20. When the first Setup is Complete window appears, you may enable (check) or disable (uncheck) any of the following settings as desired and then click Next to continue the installation:

 

-      Enable Status Monitor on Startup: A software tool for monitoring device status and error notifications from your PC.

 

-      Enable the Network Connection Repair Tool: Software that checks for network problems and automatically attempts to correct them.

 

-      Set as Default Printer: Set this printer as the default printer for the current user.

 

 

21. When the second Setup is Complete window appears, you may enable (check) or disable (uncheck) any of the following settings as desired and then click Finish to continue the installation:

-      Brother Product Research and Support Program: Help us plan enhancements to our products.

 

 

22. When the Software Update Setting screen appears, choose the software update setting you want and click OK.

 

 

23. If the Brother Product Research & Support Program starts up, follow the on-screen instructions if you would like to participate.
