"No Ink Cartridge"

1.  Read the complete message displayed in the yellow bar at the top of the display.

- If "No Ink Cartridge," go to step 2.

- If a different error message, click here to search for that error message to locate the appropriate troubleshooting steps.

No Ink Cartridge Error

2.  "No Ink Cartridge" means one or more of the ink cartridges are missing from the machine.  Inkjet machines require all four cartridges installed to properly function.  Are all four cartridges installed?

- If yes, go to step 4.

- If no, go to step 3.

3.  Install the cartridges:

a.  Open the ink cartridge cover.

b.  Open the new ink cartridge bag for each color indicated on the display and remove the cartridge.

- If installing Black, go to step c.

- If installing Magenta, Cyan, or Yellow, go to step d.

c.  Hold the Black Ink Cartridge and gently shake it back and forth 15 times.

Note Only the black cartridge should be shaken.  The other colors don't require this step.

Note If ink stains your skin or clothing, immediately wash with soap or detergent.

Note Don't touch the green chip on the top of the cartridge as this can keep the cartridge from functioning.

- Continue to step d.

d.  Insert the ink cartridge in the direction of the arrow on the label.  Each color has its own correct position.

e.  Gently push the area marked "PUSH" until the ink cartridge locks into place.

f.  Do one of the following:

- If you need to install another cartridge, go back to step b.

- If all cartridges that need to be installed have been, go to step g.

g.  Once each color indicated on the display has been installed, close the ink cover.

- If "No Ink Cartridge" is no longer on the display, your machine is functioning properly.  The issue has been resolved.

- If a different error message, click here to search for that error message to locate the appropriate troubleshooting steps.

- If "No Ink Cartridge" continues to appear, go to step 4.

4.  Remove and examine the affected ink cartridge(s).

a.  Open the ink cartridge cover.

b.  Press the lock release lever(s) to release the affected ink cartridge(s).

c.  Remove the affected ink cartridge(s) from the machine.

d.  Verify the model, marking on the cartridge, and the INKvestment TANK logo is present on each affected cartridge.

- If it is an INKvestment TANK LC3033 STARTER cartridge, go to step 5.

- If the cartridge is an INKvestment TANK LC3033 SUPER HIGH YIELD or INKvestment TANK LC3035 ULTRA HIGH YIELD cartridge, go to step 5.

- If the INKvestment TANK logo isn't present, go to step 7.

5.  Is there a small green chip/circuit board on top of each affected cartridge?

- If yes, go to step 6.

- If no, go to step 7.

6.  Make sure all affected ink cartridge(s) have been removed from the machine.

a.  Close the ink cartridge cover.

b.  Remove the power cord from the AC outlet.

c.  Wait approximately 15 seconds, then reconnect the power cord.

d.  Once the machine boots to the ink cartridge screen, open the ink cartridge cover and slowly and firmly insert each ink cartridge into its appropriate color-coded slot in the order indicated on the error message.

e.  Close the ink cartridge cover.

- If "No Ink Cartridge" is no longer on the display, your machine is functioning properly.  The issue has been resolved.

- If a different error message, click here to search for that error message to locate the appropriate troubleshooting steps.

- If "No Ink Cartridge" is still on the display, your machine will require service.  Go to Warranty and Service Options.

7.  If the INKvestment TANK logo and/or the green chip isn't present, the cartridges are likely refilled or non-Brother generic ink cartridges and the machine may not be able to detect the cartridge. We recommend using genuine Brother supplies to maximize print quality and performance. The use of non-genuine supplies may adversely affect print quality, functionality, and performance of your Brother machine. Any machine malfunction associated with the use of non-genuine supplies may void your limited warranty.

To clear the "No Ink Cartridge" error, you must install a new, unopened genuine Brother INKvestment TANK LC3033 High Yield or LC3035 Super High Yield cartridge.  For instructions on how to replace the ink cartridges, refer to Replacing an ink cartridge.
