Tip of the Month |
September is the time of year that gets those creative juices flowing. It seems
like everyday I pick up a newspaper or magazine that has an article about sewing
and crafting. You won't get an argument from me on this subject. Let me give
you some tips about where to start. If you are just getting back to sewing, why
not create a jazzy tote? They are easy to make and everyone will surely ask you
if you created the tote yourself. Take a tip from the style divas and be sure to
add your monogram to the bag with bold colored thread. A friend of mine tells me
how she shops for the craziest jewelry so that she can attach it to a tote for
added bling.
Just last month I sat down with a designer who had been using an entry level Brother
machine for 10 years. When I pointed out to her that she would have even greater
success with her blind hems, slippery fabrics and embellishments if she used a foot
that had been specifically designed for that application she was floored. The next
day she phoned me from her design loft and told me that she could not believe the
difference. So when you are turning up the hems on those pants, make the job a whole
lot easier by selecting a blind hem stitch and using a foot with the same name. If
you want to attach pearls or some other exotic trim to your tote, use the Pearls and
Sequins foot. Every instruction book that Brother includes with your new machine has
several chapters that describe in detail how to use the feet that came with your
machine. Check out the Foot of the Month project too!
Happy Sewing,
June Mellinger, Director of Brother's Education Department
