quite mediocre
January 29, 2014
By deborah from honolulu
This unit is not up to Brother standards. When I want to print and it is in sleep mode, there is a big power surge and it trips my breaker, knocking out power to the office. I took the unit back and got a new one, same model, same problem. I contacted Brother, to no avail. This one is going back too. Additionally, there is a loud grinding noise when I print, and if it has been sitting for a while (overnight) and I print, it spits extra ink on the first page of the document. I have had Brother MFC products for 12 years, this is the worst. The last was a work horse, and still fine when I bought this new model, groan.

Great, fast printer, but dims my lights
January 29, 2014
By SouthernCal from Los Angeles, CA
This is a great, fast printer. In the month that I have owned it, it has happily printed everything that I have thrown at it. Duplex printing works perfectly, too. It doesn't have the nice, color LCD display that the new color Brother printers have, but, to be honest, I prefer that fast, no-nonsense LCD display of this printer. Also, I appreciate the ability to change settings much faster with the real buttons on this unit than with the color, graphical, touch display buttons of the color printers. The only drawback that I have found is that this is the first laser printer that I have owned that dims the lights in my office every time it prints. It even makes the UPS attached to my computer beep, apparently because the printer causes such a drop in voltage in my office outlets when it runs. Still, having a laser beats an ink jet any day... I just got so sick of replacing those pesky and expensive HP ink jet cartridges so often and NEVER getting the advertised yield out of them. I've never had that problem with laser toner cartridges, so I'm happy to have a fast laser printer again, even if it dims lights every time I print with it.

This is a very durable unit that prints excellent quality prints at a high speed. No problems with regard to maintenance. Very easy to operate. Fax and scanning excellent. Very happy and would recommend this to home businesses.

Brother scanner
January 29, 2014
By ACCOUNTING from California
While I feel the scanner is nice, I feel it takes too long to save things and too long to delete the paper you scanned. I really need a fast scanner and that is what the Doctor thought he was getting.
I think I would have made a different choice, but the Doctor is the one who pays the bills.
