worst purchase ever
December 26, 2012
By waltm1959 from cincinnati ohio
we bought this MFC-J835DW.
it is our worst purchase ever. Should have gone with the laser. We have had many brother printers. this one has no ink capacity. print quality is terrible at best. to bad we didn't get to use it much untill it was to late to return it. If this is the quality brother is starting to put out, i guess we will be looking for other manufacturers. I would not recommend this to my worst enemy. I would return it in a heart beat.. Steer clear of this product.

Great Printer
December 26, 2012
By Laura from Lincoln, NE
I would recommend this printer. I have had it about 3 months and I haven't replaced the ink (which I love), and I have printed a lot of pictures. The quality of the pictures has been very good quality.

I was a little worried about setting up the wifi but that went smoothly. Also, the speed of the printer is pretty good.

User Friendly

This printer has been easy to set up, use and rarely has any paper jams. It has been nice to eliminate additional printers in the office; using the wireless capabilities of connecting all our computers to this one printer.

Expected better
December 26, 2012
By MtnBoiler from Huntington, IN
I purchased this printer a year ago. I got a really good deal on a Black Friday sale. Setting it up was very easy. The wireless feature works great. Prints fast with descent quality. One of the bad things was that the scanner function would not work. I purchased a Dell laptop at the same time I purchased printer so I didn't buy some off brand of computer. I called technical support to have them help me get my scanner working. I was on the phone with them for probably a half hour and the tech couldn't help me to get it working so he said that someone would call me back. No one ever did call me back. There was a problem with the driver or something but after one year I still have a printer that the scanner doesn't work.
I also expected a littel better quality printing pictures. I didn't pay much for this printer so maybe I get what I pay for but I don't consider the quality any better than the printer that it was replacing which was about 10 years old. The last complaint that I have is that it seems to use ink pretty quickly. It gives you a little gauge that tells you how much ink that you have and I don't understand why the color ink will decrease even when I don't do any printing in color. All in all the printer has some good features that work well like the WiFi but since it still doesn't work as advertised I feel a little disappointed.
