Labeling Solutions for Wired and Wireless Warehouse Operations.
RuggedJet™ RJ-4030 mobile thermal printer
The efficient movement and tracking of raw materials, components and finished goods through warehouse operations from the receiving dock to the shipping dock has become more complicated over time, driven by the push toward lean manufacturing and just-in-time processes, and the exponential growth of outsourcing for key components used in manufacturing. Misplaced or inaccurate tagging of received materials and components can create serious interruptions in the production cycle.
In recent years, warehouses have become much more automated. Instead of logging in received goods by hand at the receiving and shipping docks, workers now use handhelds to communicate with their ERP or materials management systems in real time to generate the paper labels they need for accurate barcoded put-away, cross-docking, sorting, pick, packing, shipping, and RMA labeling.
There are two primary ways these barcoded labels are then produced.
In many small and mid-sized warehouses, data is still communicated to and from the warehouse’s ERP system using the workers’ handhelds; the label printing data is then sent to centrally located fixed-position label printers connected directly to the ERP system. Workers pick up the required labels there and return to affix the labels as needed.
However, time can be wasted as workers move from the point of activity to the label printer and back again, and errors in mislabeling can occur when they finally return to the goods to be labeled. So many warehouse operations of all sizes have moved to a concept known as a “wireless warehouse.” A WLAN is used to link the workers’ handheld devices, the warehouse’s ERP system, and mobile label printers either carried on belt clips by workers or mounted* on their forklifts and pallet jacks. Labels are then generated at the point of activity, wherever that is within the wireless warehouse, and workers produce the labels immediately where they are needed, minimizing mislabeling and eliminating previously wasted time traveling to and from the label printer. Brother™ offers cost-effective warehouse barcode labeling solutions for the wireless warehouse as well as for smaller warehouse operations that prefer centralized label generation, including:
Mobile barcode label printing solutions for wireless warehouse operations.
Rugged, reliable mobile 4" label printers that can be clipped to your worker’s belts or mounted on their forklifts or pallets jacks and quickly produce large adhesive-backed barcode labels from virtually anywhere your WLAN reaches – from the receiving dock to the shipping dock and throughout your warehouse.
Solutions for centralized generation of paper barcode labels up to 4" wide on-demand.
Brother™ offers PC-connectable desktop models that print on inexpensive, easy-peel paper labels from convenient drop-in rolls using data from a PC or direct connection to scanners and weigh scales for low-cost, high-resolution barcode labels up to 4" wide – that can include barcodes, text, graphics and pictures.
