Materials and Supplies
  • Brother Sewing/Embroidery Machine
  • SA353 Brother Embroidery Card - Scenes, Design #14
  • SA5906 Brother Aqua-Melt Adhesive Backed Stabilizer
  • Brother Embroidery Thread
  • 4" x 4" or larger embroidery hoop for the machine
  • SA186 Open-Toe Foot
  • Nylon Window Screening
  • Large tooth plastic zipper 14" or longer
  • 4-5" of ¾" gross grain ribbon
CUTTING AND SEWING INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1 Cut a piece of nylon screening 14" x 22" (finished size 9" x 11")
Step 2 Fold in half and find center front for placement of the design. Allow for editing on screen if lettering is to be added.
Step 3 Hoop the stabilizer. Score the stabilizer and peel the backing from stabilizer.
Step 4 Place the back of the screening on the stabilizer.
Step 5 Open Embroidery Edit.
Step 6 Place the embroidery card in the machine. Select Design #14, press SET and EDIT END.
Step 7 If desired, add lettering using the built in alphabet. Touch the lettering icon, select a font and add desired letters. Edit, array, and space, as desired. Figure #1
Step 8 Stitch out the design and remove from the hoop.
Step 9 Fold the top and bottom edges over and pin the zipper in place. Figure #2
Step 10 Attach the Open Toe foot and sew the zipper in using a small zig zag stitch close to the edge of the zipper. Use the right edge of the open toe foot against the teeth of the zipper as a guide.
Step 11 Unzip the zipper half way and turn the bag wrong sides out.
Step 12 Fold the bag so the zipper faces the front side.

Step 13 Trim extra turned down edge of screen away from the back of the stitched zipper.
Step 14 Cut a 4" piece of gross grain ribbon, fold in half and place above the zipper facing into the bag.
Step 15 To allow a little fullness at the bottom of the bag, fold the bottom edge up ½". Figure #3
Step 16 Sew side seams, slowing the speed down when stitching thru the plastic zipper.
Step 17 Trim off the excess seam allowance and zipper.

Step 18 Turn right sides out thru the zipper opening.
Step 19 Soak to remove water soluble stabilizer.
