Why is the Status LED on the machine flashing RED?

Description of Solution 200000017678

The Status LED flashing RED indicates one of the following errors.

1.  The machine is having a problem feeding out the label. The reason could be that the roll of labels is not installed correctly in the machine or you have reached the end of the label roll.

a. Press the On/Off button to power off the machine.

b. Open the top cover and remove the roll of labels from the machine. Verify there are labels still left on the roll. If you have reached the end of the label roll, install a new label roll.

c. Verify that the cover “Link Lever” on the left side of the machine is attached to the top cover.  If not, re-attach the link to the top cover.   The pin on the inside of the top cover fits into the hole at the end of the link.

d. Check the slot where the end of the roll goes into the machine.  Ensure there is not a label jammed inside the slot.  With a business card, insert it into the slot from the DK roll compartment, push it toward the front of the machine and then pull it back out.

e. Re-install the DK roll back into the machine. Ensure the tape of labels is NOT under the right foot of the spool (the foot has to make direct contact with the five switches located on the right side of the compartment), the tab on the right spool slide between the opening of the guide on the right side and the roll is seated firmly in the compartment.

f. Thread the end of the roll into the slot until you can see the edge of the roll from the front of the machine.

g. Close the top cover.

h. Press the On/Off button to power on the machine and the LED should light GREEN (normal).

i. Press the Feed button.

2. The DK roll size in the machine does not match the size selected in the software, ensure that they match. Follow the instructions below based on your operating system and the Brother program you are printing from.

P-touch Editor 5.0 for Macintosh:

Click the Paper button at the top. Click the Check Media button to automatically detect the label size installed in the machine. Or select the correct label size under Media Type.

P-touch Editor 5.0 for Windows:

Express Mode - Click the Paper button at the top. Click the Check Media button to automatically detect the label size installed in the machine. Or select the correct label size under Media Type.

Professional Mode – Click on the Check Media button in “Paper Properties” to automatically detect the label size installed in the machine or select the correct label size next to the “Width” icon.  You can also click on File and select Printer/Page Setup. In “Page Setup” dialog box, click on the Page Setup tab and then click on Check Media button to automatically detect the label size.

Address Book for Windows:

On the left side of the program select the folder for the label size installed in the machine. Within the folder, select one of the label templates.

3. There is a communication error between the computer and the machine.

a. Ensure that the USB cable is connected at both ends.

b. If the USB cable is connected to a hub, try connecting the USB cable directly to the computer.

c. Try connecting the USB cable to another USB port of the computer.

d. Try another USB cable.

e. Re-install the printer driver or try connecting the machine to another computer.
