How do I clear white vertical lines that appear when I make a copy, send a fax or scan an image into the PC?

Description of Solution 200000023103

To determine if the white lines appearing on the printed documents are related to printing or scanning, follow the instructions listed below:

1. Press the REPORTS and then 2 on the dial pad.

·         If the white vertical lines appear on the Help List, refer to the solution - "How can I clear white vertical lines from documents I print or faxes I receive?"

·         If the white vertical lines do NOT appear on the Help List, continue to STEP 2.

2. These types of lines are typically caused by dirt or white out on the scanner unit. The scanner unit is the mechanism that reads in the documents that are being sent or copied. This problem is usually resolved by cleaning the white pressure bar and the scanner glass strip with Isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth. Please follow the instructions listed below:

b. Lift the control panel cover from the bottom.

c. Moisten a small clean soft, lint- free cloth with isopropyl alcohol and carefully remove dirt from the glass strip and the white bar above it

d. Close the cover.

e. Power the machine back on.

f. Wait for the LCD to return to date and time.

3. Test by making a copy of the Help List printed earlier. To make a copy, place the document face down in the ADF (automatic document feeder and press the COPY button to illuminate it in green. Press Start.

4.  If the white vertical lines continue to appear on the copied document, repeat the cleaning process (STEP 2.).

·         In addition to cleaning the scanner glass with the alcohol, run your fingertip over the glass to see if you can feel anything on it. If you feel any debris stuck on the glass, clean the glass again concentrating on that area.

·         You may have to repeat the cleaning process 3 or 4 times to eliminate all dirt or debris on the glass.

·         After each cleaning make a copy to test.
