To determine if the vertical lines
appearing on your printed documents are related to a printing or scanning issue,
print a test page by pressing MENU, 4 (Printer), 2 (Print
Options), 3 (Test Print), and COLOR START.

a. Power the Brother
machine off using the power switch located on the right side of the

support (1) and then open the ADF cover (2). Clean the white bar (3) and the
scanner glass strip (4) underneath it with a soft lint-free cloth moistened with
water. Close the ADF cover (2) and fold the ADF document support (1).
c. Lift the document cover
and clean the following with a lint-free cloth moistened with a non-flammable
glass cleaner or water.
Clean the scanner glass of the flat bed. Run your fingertip over the scanner
glass to check for debris. Clean the entire glass area, concentrating in the
area in which you felt the debris.
CAUTION: Do not press down on the glass very

located to the left of the flat bed glass. Run your fingertip over the scanner
glass to check for debris. If you feel debris, clean the entire glass area,
concentrating in the area in which you felt the debris.
iii. Clean the white plastic pad
(1) located on the underside of the document cover.

making a copy of a blank sheet of paper using the ADF (Automatic Document
Feeder) and a copy using the flat bed scanner.
a. To make a copy using the ADF, place
the blank sheet of paper in the ADF, press the COPY mode key located
below the LCD display and then COLOR START.
- If the problem
continues, repeat STEP ii and STEP iv at least 3 additional times.
b. To make a copy using the flat bed,
lift the document cover of the flat bed, place the blank sheet of paper on the
scanner glass (make sure the ADF is empty) and close the document cover. Press
the COPY mode key located below the LCD display and then COLOR

continues repeat STEP i and STEP iii at least 3 additional times.
3. If the problem continues after
multiple cleanings and your machine is within warranty, you can locate a Brother
Authorized Service Center (ASC) in your area by clicking on the link

by calling 1-877-Brother (1-877-276-8437) Monday through Friday, excluding
machine is out of warranty, you can locate a Brother Authorized Service Center
using the information listed above.
NOTE: If it is determined
that the problem was strictly maintenance related and not a mechanical
malfunction, the service will not be covered under the warranty and you will be
responsible for all ASC charges.
