Description of Solution 200000028677

If the Error LED (light) of your machine is on steady and the Status Monitor states "Manual Feed", continue to STEP 1.

If the Error LED (light) of your machine is on steady and the Status Monitor states "No Paper T1", go to STEP 8.

If the Error LED (light) of your machine is on steady and you are not sure what the Status Monitor message is, continue to STEP 1.

1. Open the manual feed slot cover.

NOTE: The HL2220 machine does not have a manual feed slot cover, continue to the next step.

2. Using both hands, slide the manual feed paper guides to the width of the paper that you are going to use.

3. Using both hands, put one sheet of paper in the manual feed slot (face up, front edge first) until the front edge touches the paper feed roller.  Once the machine has grasped the paper, let go. The machine will hold the paper in place until the print data is sent to the machine.

4. Press the GO button.

- If the page prints and the Error LED turns off, the print job was sent to the manual feed slot of the printer. Discontinue troubleshooting.

- If the page prints and the Error LED comes back on, a multiple page print job was sent to the manual feed slot of the printer. You can either keep loading one sheet of paper in the manual feed slot until the entire document prints and the Error LED turns off or you can cancel the print job, refer to the solution "How do I cancel print jobs using the printer control panel or print queue in Windows or on a Macintosh?"

- If the page does not print and the Error LED stays on, remove the paper from the manual feed slot and continue to STEP 5.

5. Make sure you use paper that meets Brother's recommended paper specifications.  You can use the following types of print media: thin paper (16 - 20 lbs), plain paper (20 - 28 lbs), thick paper (28 - 43 lbs), bond paper, recycled paper, labels, or envelopes. Please make sure you are using paper that is 20 - 24 lb, made for plain-paper copying, and is specifically marked for use in a laser printer.

- If the paper being used meets these requirements, continue to STEP 6.

- If the paper being used does not meet these requirements, it should be replaced with paper that meets the recommended specifications.  To continue troubleshooting, continue to STEP 6.

6. Adjusting the media type and paper source in the printer driver may resolve this issue. Select the media you are using for Media Type, and select "Manual" for Paper Source.

- If no, proceed to STEP 10.

a. The paper is below the maximum paper mark. Over-filling the paper tray will cause paper jams.

b. The side to be printed on must be face down.

c. The paper guides touch the sides of the paper so it will feed properly.

d. Put the paper tray firmly back into the machine.  Make sure that it is completely inserted into the machine.

11. Send a print job to the printer.

- If the Error LED turns off and your page prints, discontinue troubleshooting.

a. Turn off the machine's power switch.  Disconnect all cables, and then unplug the power cord from the AC power outlet.

b. Pull the paper tray out of the machine.
