How do I install the Brother MFL-Pro suite from the CD in Windows XP, Vista, 7 or 8 using the Wired Network interface?

To connect your Brother machine to your computer using a Wired Network interface follow the steps listed below:

 

1.  On the machine, remove the protective cap from the LAN connector marked with a LAN Network symbol.

 

2.  Connect the network interface (Ethernet) cable to the LAN connector on the machine and then connect the other end to a free port on your Access Point or Router.

 

3. Make sure your machine's power switch is on.  For applicable models, ensure there is no USB flash drive inserted in the machine.

 

4. Ensure that you are logged on to your computer with Administrator rights.  Close any applications running before installing the MFL-Pro Suite.

 

5.  Insert the software CD that is compatible with your Operating System into your CD-ROM drive. If the model name screen appears, choose your machine. If the language screen appears, choose your language.

 

NOTE:  If the CD does not automatically run, double click on My Computer on your desktop, or click Start => Computer.  Then double click on the Brother MFL-Pro Suite icon to run the CD.

 

6. The CD-ROM main menu will appear. Click Initial installation.

 

7.  Click Install MFL-Pro Suite.

 

8. After reading the ScanSoft PaperPort SE License Agreement, click YES if you agree to the terms.  The installation of PaperPort SE will automatically start and is followed by the installation of MFL-Pro Suite.

 

9. When the Brother MFL-Pro Suite Software License Agreement window appears, click YES if you agree to the Software License Agreement.

 

10.  Choose Wired Network Connection (Ethernet), and click NEXT.

 

11.  For Windows XP SP2 or greater, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 Windows Firewall Users:  If a firewall is detected, choose Change The Firewall Port Settings To Enable Network Connection And Continue With The Installation (Recommended).  You may have to click NEXT to continue.

 

NOTE:  If you are using a firewall other than Windows Firewall or Windows Firewall is off, you may receive a message warning you that the firewall could block network communication.  See the instructions provided with your firewall software for information on how to add the following network ports:

 

-         For network scanning, add UDP port 54925.

 

-         For network pc-fax receiving, add UDP port 54926.

 

-         If you still have trouble with your network connection, add UDP port 137.

 

12. If you are asked to "Choose the Brother machine you want to install", Make a selection.  You may leave the box checked for "Set by Nodename" and click NEXT.

 

  1. If a window appears stating: No devices could be found over the network, then the computer cannot communicate with the machine.  This could occur because of a firewall, security program, or the computer and/or Brother machine is not properly connected to the network.  Troubleshoot to correct any of these possibilities.

 

  1. If asked to "Search for the device again", click NO and choose Specify Your Machine by Address (Advanced Users).  Enter the IP address information appropriate to your network, and then click NEXT.  If you are not certain what information to enter you should contact your network administrator.

 

13. The installation will continue and the screens will appear one after another.  Please wait. It will take a few moments for all the screens to appear. Do not try to cancel any of the screens during this installation. 

 

NOTE:  If asked: Would you like to install this device software?  Click INSTALL.

 

14. When the User's Guides screen is displayed, if you want to download the manuals click View Manuals on the Web and follow the on-screen instructions.  You can also view the manuals on the documentation CD.  Once you are finished click NEXT to continue the installation.

 

15. When the On-Line Registration screen is displayed, make your selection and follow the on-screen instructions.  Once you have completed the registration click NEXT to continue the installation.

 

16.  When the "Setup Complete" window appears, make any of the following selections, and then click NEXT:

 

-         You may select Enable Status Monitor on Startup, which is a software tool for monitoring device status and error notification from your PC.

 

-         You may select Enable the Network Connection Repair Tool, which is a software application that will check for network problems and automatically attempt to correct them.

 

-         You may select to Set as Default Printer.

 

17. Select Yes, I Want To Restart My Computer Now and click FINISH.   The computer will restart.

 

NOTE:  After restarting the computer you must be logged on with Administrator rights.

 

18.  Once the computer restarts, you will be prompted to select an option for firmware update notification.  Make your selection and click OK.

 

NOTE: Internet access is required for any firmware upgrades.
