How do I clear a "Paper Jam [Front Rear]" message from the display?

1. Confirm the error message on the LCD.

 

-If the message displayed is "Paper Jam [Rear]", continue to STEP 8.

-If the message displayed is Paper Jam [Front] or Paper Jam [Front, Rear], continue to STEP 2.

-If it is any other message, search for and follow the solution related to that error message. 

 

2. Disconnect the machine from the AC power supply.

 

3. Pull the paper tray (1) completely out of the machine.

 

 

NOTE: Representative model shown, your machine may be different.

 

4. Pull out any jammed paper (1).

 

 

5. Check inside for jammed paper.

 

  1. Lift the flap inside the upper tray slot.

 

  

  1. Remove any jammed paper.

 

6. Reset the paper in the tray.

 

  1. Open the paper tray cover.

 

  1. Remove the paper from the paper tray.

 

  1. With both hands, gently press and slide the paper length guide (1) and then the paper side guides (2) to fit the paper size.

 

  1. Make sure that the triangular marks (3) on the paper length guide (1) and paper side guides (2) line up with the mark for the paper size you are using.

 

  1. Fan the stack of paper well to avoid paper jams and misfeeds.

 

  1. Gently put the paper into the paper tray print side down and top edge in first.

 

  1. Follow the paper tray capacity information listed below:

 

-Plain Copy Paper (17 to 24lb): Up to 250 sheets.

-Ink Jet Paper (17 to 53lb): Up to 20 sheets.

-Glossy Paper (up to 58 lb): Up to 20 sheets.

 

 

  1. Check that the paper is flat in the tray.

 

7. Reinstall the paper tray into the machine.

 

 

 

-If the error message was Paper Jam [Front], continue to STEP 12.

 

-If the error message was Paper Jam [Front, Rear], continue to STEP 9.

 

8. Disconnect the machine from the AC power supply.

 

9. Open the Jam Clear Cover (1).

 

 

 

10. Pull any jammed paper out of the machine.

 

 

11. Close the Jam Clear Cover.

 

 

12. Check inside the machine.

 

  1. Lift the Scanner Cover (1) to the open position using the finger hold handles located on right and left side of the cover. 

 

 

 

  1. Remove any paper from the printing platen area.

 

  1. Carefully check the right and left hand corners inside the machine for any paper scraps.

 

-If the paper is jammed under the print head, double check that the machine has been disconnected from the AC power then move the print head to take out the paper.

 

-If the print head is at the right corner, you may not be able to move it.

 

    1. Re-connect the power cord.

 

    1. Hold down the STOP/EXIT key until the print head moves to the middle.
    2. Unplug the machine from the power source.

 

    1. Remove any paper in the right corner.

 

13. Gently close the scanner cover using the finger holds on both sides of it as you push down on the Scanner Cover Support (1).

 

 

14. Reconnect the machine to the AC power.

 

-If the problem continues disconnect the machine from the power supply and repeat STEPS 12 through 14 once.

 

- If the error message continues to appear continue to WARRANTY AND SERVICE OPTIONS.

 

-If any other error message appears, search for and follow the solution related to that error message. 

 

15. Print a Print Quality Check Sheet (PQCS) to test the machine:

 

a.    Press MENU.

 

b.    Press OK to select Ink.

 

c.    Press OK to select Test Print.

 

d.    Press OK to select Print Quality.

 

e.    Press COLOR START.

 

-If the PQCS prints and ejects correctly the issue is resolved. Press STOP/EXIT to return to the date & time display.

 

-If the message "Paper Jam" is displayed continue to STEP 16.

 

-If any other error message appears, search for and follow the solution related to that error message. 

 

16. Check the paper installed in the tray.

 

  1. Confirm the paper being used in the machine meets the machine requirements (Check the paper packaging if necessary):

Note: Do not use any of the following types of paper:

Damaged, curled, wrinkled or irregularly shaped paper. 

Extremely shiny or highly textured paper. 

Paper that cannot be arranged uniformly when stacked.

 

-If the paper meets the machine requirements continue to WARRANTY AND SERVICE OPTIONS.

 

-If the paper does not meet the machine requirements replace it with paper that does and return to STEP 1.
