How do I configure the wireless printer and install the printer driver with a USB or Ethernet cable using the downloaded driver in Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, Server 2003, 2008, 2008 R2, or 2012?

PART I: Gather the wireless network settings of your wireless access point or wireless router

 

1.    Gather the following wireless network settings of your access point or router.  Refer to the access point's user guide for instructions on accessing the network settings information.  

 

SSID or Network Name

The name of your Wireless Network or Access Point

Network Security Key (Password)

Encryption Key, WEP Key, Passphrase

 

IMPORTANT:  Some access points and routers have both a primary and guest network.  Guest networks allow access to the network Internet connection, but restricts direct access to the network.  The Brother machine should be setup on the primary network and not the guest network.

 

If you do not have the network settings information or cannot find this information, refer to the solution - How do I find the Wireless Security Information?

2.    If you have previously configured the wireless settings of the machine, you must reset the print server back to its factory default settings.

 

a.    Turn off the machine.

 

b.    Make sure that the front cover is closed and the power cord is plugged in.

 

c.    Hold down GO as you turn on the power switch. Keep GO pressed down until all the LEDs light up and then Ready LED turns off.

 

d.    Release GO. Make sure that all the LEDs turn off.

 

e.    Press GO six times. Make sure that all the LEDs light up to indicate the print server has been reset to its factory default settings. The machine will restart.

 

 

PART II: Download the Driver from the Brother Website

 

Download the Full Driver Package. For instructions, refer to the solution - How do I navigate the website and download the Full Driver and Software Package for Windows?

 

 

PART III: Configure the Wireless Network Card

 

1.    Read the License Agreement: Click Yes if you agree.

 

 

2.    Select Wireless Network Connection. Click Next.

 

 

3.    Select Brother Peer-To-Peer Network Printer. Click Next.

 

 

4.    Read the notice for Firewall/Antivirus Software users: Click Next.

 

 

5.    Select No to configure the wireless network card manually.

 

 

6.    Confirm you have the wireless security information. Check the Checked and Confirmed box and click Next.

 

 

7.    For USB cable users, continue to STEP 8.

For Ethernet cable users, go to STEP 10.

 

8.    Choose Temporarily use a USB cable (Recommended) and then click Next.

 

 

9.    Temporarily connect the USB cable (not included) directly to the computer and the machine. Go to STEP 13.

 

 

 

10. Choose Temporarily use a Ethernet (LAN) cable and then click Next.

 

 

11. Remove the protective cap from the LAN connector.

 

 

12. Temporarily connect the Brother wireless device to your access point using a network cable (not included) and click Next.

 

 

 

13. Choose the machine you wish to configure, and click Next. If the list is blank, check if the access point and the machine are powered on, and then click Refresh.

 

 

14. Your wireless settings will automatically be detected. Click Checked and Confirmed and click Next.

 

 

15. Your SSID will be displayed.  Click Next to send this information to the printer.

 

 

NOTE: If you are on a wired computer, the wizard will search for wireless networks available from your machine. Choose the access point you wish to associate the machine with, and then click Next.

 

                                                                                         

Enter the Network Key and then enter the key again in Confirm Network Key, then click Next.

 

 

16. Click Next. The settings will be sent to your machine.

 

 

NOTE:

- The settings will remain unchanged if you click Cancel.

- If you want to manually enter the IP address settings of your machine, click Change IP Address and enter the necessary IP address settings for your network.

- (For USB cable users) If the wireless setup failure screen appears, click Retry and try starting from STEP 13 again.

 

17. For USB cable users, go to STEP 21.

For Ethernet cable users, continue to STEP 18.

 

18. A wireless LAN report will automatically be printed.

 

 

19. Choose the status as it is shown for the Connection on the wireless LAN report. Click Next.

 

-      If your status is "Connection:OK", go to STEP 21.

 

-      If your status is "Connection:Failed", continue to STEP 20.

 

 

20. Click Finish. Wireless setup failed as it was unable to associate with a wireless network. Check the error code on the printed wireless LAN report and refer to Troubleshooting in the Quick Setup Guide or the solution - I am setting up my printer wireless and the connection on the wireless LAN report is "Connection:Failed" with one of the following error codes: TS-01, TS-02, TS-04, TS-05, TS-06, TS-07, TS-08. What do I do?  Then try starting from PART III again.

 

21. (For USB cable users): Disconnect the USB cable between the computer and the machine.

 

 

(For LAN cable users): Disconnect the network cable between your access point and the machine, and click Next.

 

 

Wireless setup is now complete.

 

 

PART IV: Install The Printer Driver

 

1.    Click Next to install the printer drivers.

 

 

NOTE: If the following screen appears:

 

 

a.    Wait 1 minute. It is very important to wait 1 minute before continuing. If you do not wait at least 1 minute, the Brother machine may not have enough time to join the network and receive an IP address.

 

b.    Click OK to search again.

 

c.    If the message still appears, please reset the router by powering it off, then back on.

 

d.    Wait 1 minute. It is very important to wait 1 minute before continuing. If you do not wait at least 1 minute, the Brother machine may not have enough time to join the network and receive an IP address.

 

e.    If the message still appears, please refer to the following solution - The message "No Devices Could Be Found Over the Network" appears when installing the Brother machine on the network. What can I do?  

 

2.    Select the printer from the list and click Next.

 

 

3.    User's Guides: Click Next to continue.

 

 

4.    Online Registration: Click Next to continue.

 

 

5.    Click the checkbox next to Enable the Network Repair Tool and click Finish.

 

 

6.    Select the option you would prefer for receiving firmware update notices and click OK.

 

 

The installation is now complete.

 

-      If you selected the installation with the USB cable, continue to PART V.

 

-      If you selected the installation with the Ethernet cable, the installation is finished.

 

 

PART V: Remove Duplicate Driver And Print Test Page

 

There is second copy of the driver in the Printers folder. It was installed when the USB cable was connected. It is no longer necessary so it is safe to remove it.

 

1.    Open the Printers folder.  Refer to the following solution if needed - How do I open the Printers folder in Windows?

 

2.    Right click on the Brother HL-2270DW Series (Copy 1) driver and select Printer Properties.

 

 

3.    On the General tab, click Print Test Page.

 

 

4.    Verify the Test Page printed and click Close.

 

 

5.    Right click on the Brother HL-2270DW series driver and select Remove Device or Delete (May be different depending upon your operating system).

 

 

6.    Select Yes to remove the device.
