Warm and Inviting Holiday Table Runner

Intro Post

ScanNCut Specialist May Flaum gets into the holiday spirit and creates a wonderful gather table runner with enough sparkle and style to accentuate your next family gathering. When it comes to the holidays, I like to customize simple pieces to create a one of a kind look in my home, without the time and skill needed to create everything from scratch. One of my favorite ways to do this is with a blend of fabric appliqué and heat transfer vinyl to get the most from my patterns and materials. This project is a personal favorite because you can spend as little or as much time as you’d like making it. You can use more or less materials, create a very simple or a very complex design and you can also scale this idea down to become placemats or even decorate napkin corners if you would prefer.

Supplies needed:

  • ScanNCut DX, standard and fabric blades, heat transfer vinyl, fabric, felt, table runner, sewing machine and thread, and an iron, Brother Sewing Machine (I used my Brother SE1900 for this project).

Tip: When ironing the elements on work large to small and cut all the pieces apart so you don’t accidentally iron something on in the wrong spot. Working one item at a time allows you to further customize and layer your design and ensure that you are satisfied with how everything looks as you go.

My favorite element of this project is the pumpkin made by welding ovals together in the ScanNCut DX. This technique is one of my favorite when I want a specific simple shape totally customized to my size preferences. By using fabric and stitching this on, I created another texture and look to this project. Want to customize further? This project would also be great if you wanted to add additional lace or trim to the edges, buttons to decorate, beads, or anything else that you might enjoy using. A project like this can easily be altered to create a perfect table focal point for any holiday or occasion – and is a lot of fun to dream up.
