August 11: Part 6: The Final Trim Watch the video for the full tutorial: https://youtu.be/gQvlP0tdO_4 This is the last step in the canvas tote bag sewalong, adding the trim. Turn the bag right side out and the lining inside out. Slide the lining into the bag opening. Line up the side seams on the bag and the lining. Pin or clip the fabrics together. Stitch around the top edge of the bag with ½” seam allowance. Trim along the edge of the stitch to make the lining and canvas fabric straight. Fold the trim in half along the shorter side, creating a binding. Starting at the side seam, wrap the trim along the top edge of the bag and clip in place. Continue attaching the trim along the entire top edge of the bag, stopping 2” from the start. Change the sewing machine foot to the plastic foot, use a straight stitch and set the length to 4.0. Stitch along the edge of the trim, attaching both sides at the same time. When you get to the starting point, measure how much vinyl trim is left and trim so the binding will overlap the starting point by 1”. Continue stitching to the end. The canvas tote bag is finished and you can bet I am going to be taking this everywhere!
