Having customized gear for camping, vacations, sports, school, and more makes everything more fun! Whether you are looking for a soccer gear tote, a box for school supplies, or a camping container, as we’ll show in this tutorial, adding some customization is fun and easy with your ScanNCut DX! You can get really intricate with your custom designs or use designs that are already built into your ScanNCut DX for some quick and fun personalization.

Step-by-step instructions:

  1. Cut three strips of 3x12” vinyl in varying colors of green, and place on a ScanNCut DX mat. Set aside
  2. Go to the fonts (built-in) and type out the word(s) you wish to cut out for your container. Once selected, you can edit the size and placement on the edit screen as needed.
  3. Tip: While this project shows how it easy it is to create with the built-in fonts on the ScanNCut DX, you are also scan in your own word art, use the font converter tool, use an SVG file, or otherwise bring in your own word or letter files(s) to create with.

  4. In basic patterns, select a star and a triangle (altered to resemble a tree in this case), or any other designs that you wish to use. Add a dozen or more if small, fewer for any large-scale designs. It is much easier to work with more options (and faster!) when creating your project in this style.
  5. Scan your mat with the three different strips of vinyl, and move your designs as needed to fit onto them. Add more designs or remove some as needed to fit.
  6. Once satisfied with the placement, select cut, ensure half cut is turned on, and cut out the designs.
  7. Weed the vinyl (remove excess) and get your transfer tape out.
  8. Starting with the most central or largest designs, rub with transfer tape to lift, then place on your container as desired. Repeat with all remaining designs until you are happy with the finished product.

At this point you could add ribbons or other decoration if you so desire. This kind of project would also be great to cut out lots of designs and let a child help transfer them. Not only does this project make a great gift and help keep you organized in the great outdoors, but it’s also a fun way to add your own touch on your travels. What containers do you have that could use some customizing in your home?
