How to Sew Pockets on Leggings
-Brother Sews Blogger
Leggings are one of my favorite things to sew. Since I’ve sewed so many of them over the years, I’m constantly thinking of better and different ways to design them. Today I’m going to share a brand new legging hack to show you how to add a side pocket to a standard legging pattern.
You can add this fun side pocket to any legging pattern you already have. This will give you more sewing options for patterns that are already in your pattern library. I had a blast creating these side pocket leggings, and I hope you will enjoy sewing this as much as I did.
My daughter was pretty pleased the pockets were big enough to hold one of her favorite stuffed animals.
Before we get to the tutorial video here is a list of the supplies you will need!
Pocket Legging Supplies
●Legging pattern of choice {I used the free girls legging pattern from Life Sew Savory}
●1 yard of athletic knit fabric for leggings
●½ yard of mesh or other stretch athletic fabric
A couple of notes to the tutorial:
Make sure to add seam allowance to the sides of the legging panel when cutting the fabric.
After you have the legging panels created and top-stitched, you may need to press the seams to get them to lay flat. After I steamed these seams they were perfect.
Create these leggings for kids, friends, or yourself for a cozy and convenient legging style everyone will enjoy. I can’t wait to make a pair for myself!
