Meet the Feet! Today, the Pin Tuck Foot

The Pin Tuck Foot

With an impressive lineup of sewing, quilting and embroidery accessories, Brother Sews has plenty of options when it comes to sewing feet. Whether you are adding a handsewn ‘knotted’ candlewicking look to embellish pillows (the SA193 Candlewicking Foot)
or looking to enhance vinyl, velvet, suede and leather fabrics (the SA190 Roller Foot),
the list of feet at Brother Sews covers a lot of ground. Today, we feature the Brother Pin Tuck Foot.

What is a pin tuck stitch?

First, the pin tuck stitch is a decorative feature which is usually added to dresses, skirts and other garments for an added touch of style. They can look like ‘pleats’ but in parallel rows which in turn can give a garment a degree of volume and flair. Using the Brother Pin Tuck Foot helps the sewer create this look by securing the fabric in the bottom slots using a double needle. This is a fun look and one that can add a personalized look for any fabric.

The Brother Pin Tuck Stitch Foot

Brother Sews offers the Pin Tuck foot in two sizes; the SA162
is the 5-groove pin tuck foot, and the SA179
is the 7-groove pin tuck foot. For the 7-groove foot, you would achieve smaller yet more pin tucks for your project while the 5-groove foot offers larger yet fewer pintucks. These grooves on the sole plate form textbook pin tucks and allow you to tailor the stitches to just about any garment. The smooth ‘snap-on, snap-off’ aspect of the foot makes it a snap to change on the go and can be used on a variety of Brother sewing machines such as the Q Series,
the Simplicity line, and THE Dream Machine 2 Innov-ís XV8550D.
Included in the kit are customized bobbin case covers for feeding cording into a pin tuck as it is being formed. So, the next time you would like to insert some baby piping, or you would like to guide some cord, or for even spacing of straight or gently curved couched fibers, think of the Brother Pin Tuck Foot.
