Welcome to the Geometric Jewels Sampler Quilt-Along!
For six weeks from February 27, 2024, Brother USA and myself (Wendy of The Weekend Quilter) will be hosting a sampler quilt along (QAL), exploring different piecing techniques including, strip piecing, half-square triangles, quarter-square triangles, split quarter-square triangles, flying geese and quick-corners. The quilt pattern (Geometric Jewels Sampler) is geared towards beginners and seasoned quilters looking to fill in any gaps and / or master their existing skill set in the craft. The completed project measures 63in x 72in, making it the perfect throw to brighten up any space.
It's FREE to participate in the QAL. Download the QAL sampler quilt pattern for FREE from The Weekend Quilter’s website.
About the Quilt Pattern
A sampler quilt project is made up of a variety of different quilt block designs. Typically, the overall quilt design would have one of each type of quilt block. Each highlighting a piecing technique and aiming to build on new and / or existing quilting skills.
Geometric Jewels Sampler quilt pattern is a beginner-friendly sampler project and is made up of five different blocks with two of them varying slightly (see below). To really hone in on the idea of mastering your skills, the pattern asks to create one block design more than once. Each block measures 9in square (finished size) / 9½in square (unfinished size). In the final week of the QAL, the blocks will be combined to form a bold, modern, geometric design.

This QAL allows you to follow along or work at your own pace. An overview of all the posts will permanently stay here.

Supplies and Tools
You’ll need the following tools and materials for the Geometric Jewels Sampler quilt project:
- Basic sewing machine – throughout the QAL, I will be using my Brother Innovis BQ3100 sewing machine from the Quilt Club series.
- Download the Geometric Jewels Sampler quilt pattern for FREE from The Weekend Quilter’s website here.
- Rotary cutter
- Quilting rulers – preferably a long ruler (i.e., 6in x 24in) to cover longer cuts and a medium size ruler at least 12in square size and with 45-degree angle guide to trim / square up the quilt blocks.
- Cutting mat
- Iron
- Fabric pen or pencil
- Pins
- Fabric scissors
- Fabrics, quilting cotton – Fabric requirements are based on 42in width of fabric:
Quilt Top - Fabric A (background, medium blue): 2¾ yards (252 cm)
- Fabric B (purple): 1 yard (92 cm)
- Fabric C (dark blue): 1⅝ yards (150 cm)
- Fabric D (light blue): ⅝ yard (58 cm)
- Batting (or wadding) – There needs to be at least 4in overhang on each side of the quilt top. Therefore, batting needs to be at least 67in x 76in in size.
- Coordinating thread(s), 50wt cotton
- Measuring tape (optional
- If you do not plan on outsourcing the quilting portion (adding decorative stitches to permanently hold the three layers of the quilt together) to a longarm quilter and do it yourself on your domestic machine, you’ll also need the following tools for basting and quilting:
- Basting spray or safety pins
- Heramarker or non-serrated dull knife to mark quilting guidelines
- Brother Compact MuVit Digital Dual Feed Foot or walking foot attachment
- Quilting gloves
Quilt Binding: ⅝ yard (58 cm)
Color Inspirations
To get your creative juices flowing, here are a few different color inspirations generated with the digital coloring page. As shown in the first image, I’ve made the second colorway and that will be used throughout the blog post examples. And I’ll be making a second Geometric Jewels quilt in the third colorway with you all.
And if you’d like to play around with different colours and preview your work before you commit to cutting into your beautiful fabrics, you can play around with the digital colour page here . I love this tool so much because I’m able to visualise several different colour combinations quickly! But if digital colouring pages are not for you, I have also provided a printable colouring page in the PDF quilt pattern.
