Why does the message "Toner Life End" or "Toner Low" continue to appear on the display after I replaced the toner cartridge?

You CANNOT install a partially used toner cartridge from another printer. Only a brand new TN670 toner cartridge from a sealed Brother carton can be used to reset "Toner Life End".


If "Toner Life End" is still on the LCD (display) after installing a new TN670 toner cartridge:


1. Verify you are using genuine Brother toner.


Brother strongly recommends that customers use only genuine Brother drum units and/or toner cartridges. Each Brother laser printer is designed to work at pre-set temperatures that are matched exactly to each of our individual toner formulations.  Each individual component is designed to work with the other to ensure quality and reliability. Using non-Brother supplies may affect the hardware performance, print quality and machine reliability. The Brother limited warranty does not apply to any problem that is caused by the use of third party drum units, toner cartridges or toner.


2. Verify the toner cartridge is installed correctly.


a. Press the cover release button on the top of the printer and open the front cover.


b. Remove the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly.


NOTE: We recommend you place the toner and drum assembly on a piece of paper in case you accidentally spill or scatter toner.



c. Remove the toner cartridge from the drum by holding down the blue lock lever on the right side of the drum and lifting the toner out.



NOTE: Handle the toner cartridge carefully. If toner scatters on hands or clothing, immediately wipe it off or wash it with cold water.


d. Gently rock the toner cartridge from side to side five or six times to distribute the toner evenly inside the cartridge.


e. Place the toner cartridge into the drum (be sure it clicks into place).



f. Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum by gently sliding the blue tab on the top of the cartridge from left to right several times. Return the blue tab to the home position before reinstalling the drum assembly.



g. Reseat the drum into the printer pressing it in securely.


h. Close the front cover making sure it latches on both sides.


3.  If the LCD message is cleared, no further troubleshooting is needed.


- If the LCD (display) continues to show the message "Toner Life End", contact Brother Customer Service by calling 1-877-Brother (1-877-276-8437) Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.
