Description of Solution 200000022263

This indicates that a Service Call Error has occurred. Perform the steps below to clear the error.

If the error is cleared during any of the steps below, go to STEP 3 for information on how to prevent this error from occurring again.

NOTE: In the steps below, the Back Cover LED may be on, off, or flashing. Disregard the condition of the Back Cover LED while performing the steps below.

1. Turn the printer OFF. Wait a few seconds and then turn the printer ON.

2. If the error continues, leave the machine with the power ON for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, turn the printer off and then turn it back on.

3. If the error was cleared by any of the steps listed above, verify that the firmware installed on the printer is version 1.18 or later to ensure that the error does not occur again. You can verify firmware version by performing the following steps:

a. Make sure that the printer is powered on and ready to print.

b. Press the GO button once to ensure that the printer is in the ready state.

c. Press the GO button three times within 2 seconds. A report will print after a few seconds. The firmware version is located near the top-left corner of the printed page under the model number and after the text "CONT. ROM VERSION:".

- If the firmware version is earlier than version 1.18, it is recommended that the firmware be updated by downloading and running the firmware update tool.

Refer to the solution "How do I perform a firmware update or firmware upgrade on my Brother machine?"

- If the firmware version is 1.18 or higher, continue to the next step.

4. Turn the printer OFF and unplug the printer's power cable and other connections.

5. Open the panel on the left rear side to access the memory slot.

6. Is there memory installed in the slot?

-If Yes, remove the memory by gently pressing the clips outward.  Tilt the memory chip away from the machine and remove by holding the edges of the memory and continue to STEP 7.

-If no additional memory is installed, replace the covers and go to STEP 10.

7. Plug the printer's power cable back into the rear of machine and power on.

- If the printer powers on normally, continue to STEP 8.

- If the error continues, go to STEP 11.

8. Turn the printer OFF and unplug the printer's power cable and other connections.

9. Hold the DIMM by the edges and align the notches in the DIMM with the protrusions in the slot. Insert the DIMM completely diagonally (1), then tilt it towards the machine until it clicks into place (2). Replace the covers.

10. Plug the printer's power cable back into the rear of machine and power on.

- If the printer powers on normally, the additional memory was not seated correctly previously.

- If the error continues with the memory reinstalled, you will need to replace the optional memory.
