The Paper LED (light) is on solid or steady and the Status LED (light) is red; Status Monitor states No Paper. What should I do?

Description of Solution 200000022409

This solution is intended to troubleshoot the printer when the Paper LED stays on and the Status LED is red. If the Paper LED is flashing, refer to the solution - "How do I clear the flashing Paper and red Status LEDs (lights)? The Status Monitor states Paper Jam, Incorrect Paper Size for Auto DX, or Size Mismatch, what should I do?"

If the Paper and Status LEDs (light) of your machine is on steady and the Status Monitor states "MP Tray", continue to STEP 1.

If the Paper and Status LEDs (light) of your machine is on steady and the Status Monitor states "No Paper T1" or "No Paper T2" go to STEP 4.

If the Paper and Status LEDs (light) of your machine is on steady and you are not sure what the Status Monitor message is, continue to STEP 1.

1. Open the manual feed cover. Pull out the MP tray support (1) and unfold the flap (2).

2. Using both hands, slide the manual feed paper guides to the width of the paper that you are going to use.  Make sure the paper is below the max fill mark (1) on the paper guide.

3. Press the GO button.

- If the page prints and Paper and Status LEDs s turns off, the print job was sent to the MP tray of the printer. Discontinue troubleshooting.

- If the page prints and the Paper and Status LEDs come back on, a multiple page print job was sent to the manual feed slot of the printer. You can either keep loading one sheet of paper in the manual feed slot until the entire document prints and the Paper and Status LEDs s turn off or you can cancel the print job, refer to the solution - "How do I cancel print jobs using the control panel Job Cancel button?"

- If the page does not print and the Paper and Status LEDs s stay on, remove the paper from the manual feed slot and continue to STEP 4.

4. Make sure you use paper that meets Brother's recommended paper specifications.  You can use the following types of print media: thin paper (16 - 20 lbs), plain paper (20 - 28 lbs), thick paper (28 - 43 lbs), bond paper, recycled paper, labels, or envelopes. Please make sure you are using paper that is 20 - 24 lb, made for plain-paper copying, and is specifically marked for use in a laser printer.

- If the paper being used meets these requirements, continue to STEP 5.

- If the paper being used does not meet these requirements, it should be replaced with paper that meets the recommended specifications.  To continue troubleshooting, continue to STEP 5.

5. Adjusting the media type and paper source in the printer driver may resolve this issue. Select the media you are using for Media Type, and select "Manual" for Paper Source.
