How do I clear white or black vertical lines from printed documents?

Description of Solution 200000022542

To determine if the white or black vertical lines are related to a printing issue or scanner issue, print a test page by pressing MENU3 (Printer), 2 (Print Options), 3 (Test Print), and START.

- If the lines appear on the Test Print, continue to STEP 1.

- If the lines do NOT appear on the test page, refer to the solution - "How do I clear white or black vertical lines when I make a copy or scan an image into the PC?"

1. Brother strongly recommends that customers use only genuine Brother drum units and/or toner cartridges. Each Brother laser printer is designed to work at pre-set temperatures that are matched exactly to each of our individual toner formulations.  Each individual component is designed to work with the other to ensure quality and reliability. Using non-Brother supplies may affect the hardware performance, print quality and machine reliability. The Brother limited warranty does not apply to any problem that is caused by the use of third party drum units, toner cartridges or toner.

2. Verify the paper you are using meets the recommended paper specifications.

Recommended Paper:

Plain paper: Xerox 4200DP 20 lb or Hammermill Laser Paper 24 lb

Recycled paper: no specific brand recommended

Transparencies: 3M CG 3300

Labels: Avery laser label #5160

Envelopes: no specific brand recommended

Use paper that is made for plain paper copying.

Use paper that is 20 to 24 lb (75 to 90 g/m2).

Use neutral paper; do not use acidic or alkaline paper.

Use long grain paper.

Use paper with moisture content of approximately 5%.

DO NOT use ink jet paper because it may cause a paper jam or damage your printer.

Preprinted paper must use ink that can withstand the temperature of the printer's fusing process (200 degrees centigrade).

If you use bond paper, paper having a rough surface or paper that is wrinkled or creased, the paper may exhibit degraded performance.

3. Check the printer's environment. High temperatures and high humidity can cause this issue. The Brother machine should be operated within the following ranges: temperature 50 to 90.5 F; humidity 20% to 80% without condensation.

4. Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum:

a. Turn off the power switch and unplug the power cord.

b. Open the front cover and remove the drum and toner assembly.

NOTE: We recommend that the customer places the drum and toner assembly on a piece of paper in case you accidentally spill or scatter toner.

c. Locate and clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the blue tab on the top of the cartridge from right to left several times. Return the blue tab to the home position until it clicks into place. If you do not return the blue tab to the home position, printed pages will have a stripe down the page.

5. Clean the laser glass:

a. The laser glass (1) is located inside the machine where the drum was installed. It is a piece of glass, about 1/2 inch wide and approximately 8 inches long, located on the top of the opening.

b. Gently wipe the glass with a clean soft DRY cloth. DO NOT use isopropyl alcohol or any liquid to clean the glass.

6. Put the drum and toner assembly back in the machine.

7. Close the front cover making sure it latches on both sides.

8. Plug the machine back into the power outlet and power the machine On.

9. Test the machine by printing a test page by pressing MENU3 (Printer), 2 (Print Options), 3 (Test Print), and START.

If the problem continues, the drum must be replaced with a new genuine Brother DR620 drum.
