How do I clear white or black vertical lines when I make a copy or scan an image into the PC?

Description of Solution 200000022546

White or black vertical lines that appear on the images you scan into the computer and copies you make are typically caused by dirt or correction fluid on ADF or scanner unit.

The scanner unit is the mechanism that reads in the documents that are being copied, scanned or transmitted.

1.   To verify the issue only occurs when scanning, copying and faxing, print a Configuration List by doing the following:

a.    Press MENU.

b.    Press 3 (Printer), 2 (Print Options), 2 (Configuration) and then START

c.    Press STOP/EXIT after the Configuration List prints out.

-  If the list printed OK, click here.

-  If the list printed all black, refer to the solution - "My printed pages are all black. How can I improve the print quality?"

This problem is usually resolved by cleaning the scanner glass, ADF glass, ADF pressure bar and the white film located on the underside of the document cover. To clear these lines, follow the instructions listed below:

2. Unplug the power cord.

3. Lift the document cover

4. Clean the following four areas with a lint-free cloth moistened with isopropyl alcohol:

a. The large scanner glass of the flat bed.

b. The large white plastic film located on the underside of the Document Cover.

c. The thin glass strip located to the left of the flat bed glass.

d. The white plastic pressure bar located to the left of the white film.

5. Plug in the machine. Test the machine by making a copy.

a. To make a copy, place the document face up in the ADF and press the START key.

If the lines still appear, repeat the cleaning steps 3c and 3d. In addition to cleaning the small glass strip, run your fingertip over the glass to see if you can feel anything on it. If you feel any debris stuck on the glass, clean the glass again concentrating on that area. You may need to repeat the cleaning process 3 or 4 times to eliminate all dirt or debris on the glass.  After each cleaning make a copy to test.

If the lines are gone, go to STEP 6 to make a test copy on the flatbed scanner glass.

6. To make a copy using the flat bed scanner glass, lift the Document Cover and place the document face down on the scanner glass. Close the Document Cover and press the START key.

If the lines still appear, repeat the cleaning steps 3a and 3b. In addition to cleaning the large scanner glass, run your fingertip over the glass to see if you can feel anything on it. If you feel any debris stuck on the glass, clean the glass again concentrating on that area. You may need to repeat the cleaning process 3 or 4 times to eliminate all dirt or debris on the glass.  After each cleaning make a copy to test.
