Description of Problem 100000017837

The printed pages are faint, light, or faded. How do I improve print quality?

Description of Solution 200000022757

Brother strongly recommends that customers use only genuine Brother drum units and/or toner cartridges. Each Brother laser printer is designed to work at pre-set temperatures that are matched exactly to each of our individual toner formulations.  Each individual component is designed to work with the other to ensure quality and reliability. Using non-Brother supplies may affect the hardware performance, print quality and machine reliability. The Brother limited warranty does not apply to any problem that is caused by the use of third party drum units, toner cartridges or toner.

1. Check the printer's environment. High temperatures and high humidity can cause this issue. The Brother machine should be operated within the following ranges: temperature 50 to 90.5 F; humidity 20% to 80% without condensation.

2.  If the whole page is light, the toner save mode may be on in the printer driver. Follow the steps below for your operating system, to check if Toner Save Mode is on.

NOTE:

-We recommend that you put the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly on a piece of disposable paper or cloth in case you accidentally spill or scatter toner.

- Handle the toner cartridge carefully. If toner scatters on your hands or clothes, wipe or wash it off with cold water at once.

- To prevent damage to the printer from static electricity, DO NOT touch the electrodes.

8. Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the blue tab from right to left and left to right several times.

NOTE:  Be sure to return the tab to the home position on the left side. If you do not, printed pages may have a vertical stripe.

9. With the drum unit removed from the printer, clean the laser glass. The laser glass is located inside the printer where the drum was located. It is a piece of glass, about 1/2 inch wide and approximately 8 inches long, located on the top of the opening. Gently wipe the glass with a clean soft DRY cloth. DO NOT use isopropyl alcohol or any liquid to clean the glass.

a. Turn OFF the machine's power switch (located on the right side of the machine). Unplug the power cord from the wall.

b. Open the front cover. Lift the drum unit slightly and pull it out. Place the drum unit on a piece of disposable paper or cloth to avoid spilling and scattering the toner.

c. Remove the toner cartridge from the drum by holding down the lock lever (blue tab) on the right side of the drum unit and lift the toner out.

NOTE: Handle the toner cartridge carefully. If toner scatters on your hands or clothes, immediately wash it off with cold water.

d. Unpack the new toner cartridge. Gently rock the toner cartridge from side to side five or six times to distribute the toner evenly inside the cartridge.

e. Remove the yellow protective cover from the toner cartridge.

f. Place the toner cartridge into the drum (be sure it clicks into place).

g. Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the blue tab on the top of the cartridge from right to left several times. Return the blue tab to the home position until it clicks into place before reinstalling the drum unit assembly. If you do not return the blue tab to the home position, printed pages will have a stripe down the page.
