1. Click on the
link below to download a test pattern and print the test pattern.
2. Review the two
pages that are printed to identify the color causing the problem.
- If the vertical
line is from top to bottom on both pages that are printed, continue to STEP 3 to clean the corona wire for the color line you
see on the test pattern.
- If the vertical
line is only seen in 1 of the 4 boxes that are printed, replace the toner
cartridge of the color you see the line in.
3. Clean the corona
a. Turn the Brother
machine off using the power switch located on the right side of the Brother
b. Lift the top
cover using the indented handle in the center until you hear a click.
c. Lift the drum
and toner assembly out of the Brother machine of the color that is causing the
line on the print sample. For example, if the vertical line is cyan color, you
should remove the cyan drum and toner assembly.
recommend that you place the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly on a clean,
flat surface with a sheet of disposable paper or cloth underneath it in case you
accidently spill or scatter toner
d. Clean the
primary corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the green tab located
on top of the drum unit, from left to right several times. Return the green tab
to the home position.
e. Push down the
green-labeled lock lever and take the toner cartridge out of the drum
f. Put the print
sample in front of the drum unit and find the exact position of the poor print.
g. Turn the drum
unit gear which is located on the left side with your thumb or finger while also
looking at the surface of the drum unit for any dust, label, or glue like
substance on the drum unit roller.
h. When you have
found the mark on the drum that matches the print samples, wipe the surface of
the drum with a dry cotton swab until the dust or glue on the surface comes off.
If unable to locate any dust or glue on the surface, still wipe the drum surface
with a dry cotton swab.
i. Put the toner
cartridge back firmly into the drum unit. You will hear it lock into

and toner cartridge assembly into the Brother machine. Make sure that you match
the toner cartridge color to the same color label on the Brother

getting multiple colored vertical lines, follow STEPS c -
j to clean the corona wire of that color drum.
l. Close the top
cover of the Brother machine.
m. Turn the Brother
machine on using the power switch located on the right side of the Brother
4. Print the test
pattern from STEP 1 again or print the document
from your computer.
- If the document
prints fine, the issue is resolved.
- If the problem
continues, replace the drum and toner cartridge for the color causing vertical
line. Below is information about purchasing the drum unit for the Brother

temperatures that are matched exactly to each of our individual toner

DR210CL. Please be aware that under normal conditions, all 4 drum units will
need to be replaced at or about the same time since all 4 drums rotate in unison
during the various stages of the Brother machine's operation regardless of
whether toner is deposited on the page for that specific color or

recommendation that the retail set be purchased, you replace the drum unit as
requested, and any unused drums be left in their original packaging until the
Brother machine requests their replacement.
