How can I improve light print?

Description of Solution 200000024668

1.  Is this occurring only when printing from a computer?

- If Yes, go to solution - When I print a document from my computer, the text is gray, dull, light or faded instead of black. What can I do?

- If No, continue to STEP 2.

2.  Print a Print Quality Check Sheet (PQCS).

a. Press the 4 color columns on the right side of the Touch screen.

b. Select Test Print on the LCD.

c. Select Print Quality on the LCD.

d. Press COLOR START.

NOTE: The machine will generate the Print Quality Check Sheet (PQCS). On the PQCS each of the four colors is represented by a slanted square pattern made up of 96 individual blocks. The colors should appear in the following order from left to right: Black - Yellow - Cyan - Magenta.  Cyan is the light blue color and Magenta is the pinkish color.

Note: Once printing is complete, the LCD will display: IS QUALITY OK? 1. YES 2. NO.  Do NOT press 1 or 2.

e.  Press STOP/EXIT to return to the Date and Time display.

 3.  Evaluate the Print Quality Check Sheet (PQCS).  Below are examples of issues you may see on the PQCS.  The examples below are for Black Ink printing issues.  A similar print issue can occur in each of the colors C / M / Y.

4.  Do one of the following depending on the examples provided above and the outcome of the PQCS:

-    If all 4 colors printed with all the blocks (example A) and the print is NOT light, the issue is resolved.

-    If all 4 colors printed with all the blocks (example A) but the print is too light, go to STEP 5.

-    If any of the colors (C, Y, M) only (not black) is printing too light or has an issue like examples B, C, D or E, go to solution - My printed documents are missing colors (Y, C, M). What can I do?

-    If Black AND any of the colors (C, Y, M) has random blocks missing (examples D & E), go to solution - My printed documents are missing colors (Y, C, M). What can I do?

-    If Black only or Black AND any of the colors looks like example B or C, go to STEP 9.

-    If Black only looks like example D or E or is printing too light, go to STEP 5.

5.   Verify your cartridge is installed correctly by uninstalling and reinstalling the ink cartridge.

6.   Do the following to clean the print head.

Note:  Cleaning the print head consumes ink.  Cleaning too often uses ink unnecessarily.

a. Press the 4 color columns on the right side of the Touch screen.

b. Select Cleaning on the LCD.

c. Select BLACK, COLOR or ALL depending on what you want to clean.  The machine will clean the print head.

7.  Print another Print Quality Check Sheet (PQCS).

a. Press the 4 color columns on the right side of the Touch screen.

b. Select Test Print on the LCD.

c. Select Print Quality on the LCD.

d. Press COLOR START. The machine will generate another PQCS.  Once printing is complete, the LCD will display: IS QUALITY OK? 1. YES 2. NO.  Do NOT press 1 or 2.

e. Press STOP/EXIT to return to the Date and Time display.

8.  Review the new PQCS and do the following based on the quality of the sheet:

a.   If all four colors printed correctly and the print quality is acceptable, your issue is resolved.

b.   If black only or black AND any of the other colors is still missing blocks, compare the 2nd PQCS to the 1st PQCS printed.

-    If there is NO improvement in the print quality of the 2nd PQCS compared to the 1st PQCS, go to STEP 9.

-    If there IS improvement in the print quality of the second PQCS compared to the first PQCS, click here for steps on how to clean the print head.  The instructions are also located in your User's Guide in the Appendixes Section under Troubleshooting and Routine Maintenance - Cleaning the Print Head.  The recommendation is to complete the print head cleaning at least four (4) times total to ensure the head is completely clean.
