How do I download and use the Network Connection Repair Tool?

If you were able to print or scan over your network but have suddenly lost this ability Brother has designed a utility to assist in restoring printing or scanning capability with minimal user interaction.  This utility will automatically locate and update your device's network address within your driver which will restore your printing or scanning ability!

 

This utility is available for Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8 Users.

 

To download and use the Network Connection Repair Tool, follow the steps below:

 

1.    Download the Network Connection Repair Tool from the Brother website: http://www.brother-usa.com

 

NOTE: For instructions on how to navigate the Brother website to download the software, please click here.

 

2.    Click RUN.  A zip self decompression window will launch, click on DECOMPRESS(X).

 

NOTE: XXXX is a series of numbers usually denoting the revision version of the program.  (Ex: nettool_1045.exe) 

 

If you did not choose to "Run" the program during the download, then locate and double-click on the nettool_XXXX.exe file.

 

3.    When the decompression is complete click OK.  This will create a folder called nettool.

 

4.    Double click on the nettool folder and double click the file BrotherNetTool.exe.

 

 

5.    You will receive a window asking you to verify the following conditions.  Once you have verified this information click on the Checked and confirmed box and click OK.

 

 

-       That your device is turned on and that there are no error indications.

 

-       That all the cables are properly inserted.

 

-       That your device and your computer are both connected to the same network.

 

-       If you are running any security software, such as a virus checker, firewall etc, Confirm that network communication between the device and the computers is permitted by your security software.

 

-       If you are using AntiVirus Software, a warning dialog window may appear during diagnosis.  If so, choose "allow" to continue the diagnosis.

 

6.    You will receive a message stating: Click "OK" to start the diagnosis of your network device.  Click OK.

 

 

7.    If you have more than one device installed on your computer you will be asked to choose the appropriate device.  Click on your model in the drop down list.

 

8.    Depending on the specifications of your device, you may enable (check) or disable (uncheck) the tool for the Printer or Scanner.  Make your selection and click OK.

 

 

9.    You will be asked: Is the device being used by other network users?.  Choose the appropriate answer and click OK.

 

 

10. You will see a message stating: The diagnosis is in progress.  Please wait.

 

11. After a few moments, you should see either a message stating the result of the attempted repair or a message showing the device's IP address. 

 

-       If the repair was unsuccessful, you may click the Retry button and attempt the repair again.

 

-       If the repair was successful, and other people are using this device over the network, you will receive the following message.  Click Complete.

 

 

-       If you are the only one using this device and it was successfully found on the network, you will receive a message displaying the device's IP address.  Verify the IP address and click OK.  Continue to STEP 12.

 

 

12.  The tool will attempt to repair the connection.  After a few moments, you should see either a message stating the result of the attempted repair.

 

-       If the repair was unsuccessful, you may click the Retry button and attempt the repair again.

 

-       If the repair was successful, you may click Print Test Page if you repaired and would like to test the printing functionality.  Once you are finished, click Complete.
