How can I improve my Brother machine's copy quality?

1. To verify the issue only occurs when scanning and copying, print the Configuration page by pressing the MENU, 3 (Printer), 2 (Print Options), 2 (Configuration) and then START.  Press STOP/EXIT after it has printed.

 

- If the Configuration page printed OK, continue to STEP 2.  

 

- If the Configuration page was printed with the same print quality issues, refer to the solution for that print quality issue.

 

2. This issue may be caused by invalid or corrupt data in the machine's temporary memory. Clearing the temporary memory according to the following steps may correct the issue.

 

a. Turn off the power switch located on the right side of the machine near the bottom rear corner and then turn the switch back on after approximately 30 seconds.

 

b. Place a document face up in the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF), top edge first.

 

c. Press START.

 

- If the copy prints OK, then the issue is resolved.

 

- If the problem continues, continue to STEP 3.

 

3.  Listed below are instructions for various adjustments that can be made to improve the Brother machine's copy quality:

 

- To adjust the general copy quality, refer to SECTION 1.

 

- To make the copies lighter or darker, refer to SECTION 2.

 

- To make the copies sharper and more vivid, refer to SECTION 3.

 

 

SECTION 1: COPY QUALITY SETTING

 

The Brother machine offers a range of Copy Quality settings. Each setting is appropriate for copying a different type of document:

 

Auto: Use this setting for ordinary printouts. Auto is the default setting, and is suitable for documents that contain both text and photographs.

 

Text: This setting is suitable for copying text-only documents.

 

Photo: This setting is recommended for copying detailed images, such as photographs.

 

 

Temporarily changing the Copy Quality setting

 

To change the Copy Contrast setting for your next copy job, follow these steps:

 

1. Do one of the following:

 

- Place the document you want to copy into the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) face up, top edge first.

 

- Place the document you want to copy face down on the flat scanner glass.

 

2. Use the dial pad to enter the number of copies you want to make (up to 99).

 

3. Press the CONTRAST/QUALITY key.

 

4. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to select Quality. Press the OK key.

 

5. Press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to select a setting.

 

You can select Auto, Text, or Photo.

 

6. Press the OK key.

 

7. Press the START key to start copying.

 

 

Programming a new default Copy Quality setting

 

You can change your Brother machine's default Copy Quality setting by following these steps:

 

1. Press MENU, 2 (Copy), 1 (Quality).

 

2. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to select a setting.

1. Do one of the following:

 

- Place the document you want to copy into the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) face up, top edge first.

 

- Place the document you want to copy face down on the flat scanner glass.

 

2. Use the dial pad to enter the number of copies you want to make (up to 99).

 

3. Press the CONTRAST/QUALITY key.

 

4. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to select Contrast. Press the OK key.

 

5. Do one of the following:

 

- Press the LEFT ARROW key to decrease the contrast.

 

- Press the RIGHT ARROW key to increase the contrast.

 

6. Press the OK key.

 

7. Press the START key to start copying

 

Programming a new default Copy Contrast setting

 

You can change your Brother machine's default Copy Contrast setting by following these steps:

 

1. Press MENU, 2 (Copy), 4 (Contrast).

 

2. Do one of the following:

 

- Press the LEFT ARROW key to decrease the contrast.

 

- Press the RIGHT ARROW key to increase the contrast.

 

3. Press the OK key.

 

4. Press the STOP/EXIT key.
