Description of Solution 200000039893

Before you begin, you'll need to locate the compatible software CD or download and extract the Add Printer Wizard Driver from the Brother website http://www.brother-usa.com/

Click here for instructions on how to navigate the website to the Downloads section.

-      Local Users

-      Network Users

Local Users:

1.  If you haven't already done so, connect the interface cable and power on the machine.

2.  Open the Printer folder:

  1. While on the Desktop Screen, move your mouse to the right side of the screen to display the Charms bar.

  1. Click on Settings => Control Panel.

NOTE: This option is not available from the Start Screen.

  1. Click (View) Devices and Printers.

  1. Click Add a Printer.

3. Click The printer that I want isn't listed.

4. Choose Add a local printer or network printer using manual settings and click NEXT.

5. Select Use an existing port.

6. From the dropdown list choose select a USB port and click NEXT. The port should be USB0xx. (Where xx is a number).

NOTE:  If there are no USB Virtual Ports to select, then either there is no communication between the Brother Machine and the computer or there is a problem with the computer's Operating System.

-       Verify the USB cable is connected properly, try multiple ports on the computer, and try another known working cable.

-       If you still do not have a USB virtual port available, try connecting the machine to another computer.

-       If the machine works on a second computer, then the issue is with the original computer's Operating System not properly loading the USB controllers.  Contact your computer manufacturer for further support.

WARNING:  Do not attempt to create a local port.  The correct ports should be automatically created by the Operating System.

7.  Click HAVE DISK.

8.  Click BROWSE and specify the location of the drivers from the compatible CD or where you downloaded and extracted them.

NOTE: Only use a CD that is compatible with your Operating System.  The location of drivers on the CD will differ depending on the model and the computer's operating system.  (Ex: x:\install\driver\gdi\32\usa)

9.  Click OPEN.

10.  Click OK.

11.  Select the model name and click NEXT

12.  If you receive a message stating that a driver is already installed, select Replace The Current Driver and click NEXT.

13.  We recommend that you leave the default printer name and click NEXT.

14.  Select a Printer Sharing option and click NEXT.

15.  If you want to use your Brother machine as the default printer, check Set As The Default Printer.

16.  You may click PRINT A TEST PAGE to check if your machine is working properly.
