My printed documents are light, dull or not vivid. How can I improve the print quality?

1. Print a Print Quality Check Sheet (PQCS):

 

a.    Press MENU.

 

b.    Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to select Ink and press OK.

 

c.    Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to select Test Print and press OK.

 

d.    Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to select Print Quality and press OK.

 

e.    Press the COLOR START key. A Print Quality Check Sheet will be printed.

 

f.     Study the PQCS; there will be six color blocks (Black, Yellow, Cyan and Magenta) made up of dotted lines. Check the quality of the six color blocks on the sheet.

 

 

g.    The LCD asks you if the print quality is OK, press the STOP/EXIT key to return to the standby display.

 

-         If all the lines are clear, visible and vivid, as shown under "OK", continue to STEP 2.

 

-         If you can see missing short lines as shown under "Poor" refer to solution:"How do I clear white lines on printed documents?"

 

NOTE: Missing lines in the color blocks can result in light print or horizontal white lines. The troubleshooting included in solution will assist in both reported print quality issues.

-         If all of the dotted lines are in place, but the lines are dull and NOT vivid, go to STEP 3.

 

2.  Is the light/dull print occurring when printing from the PC or copying?

-         Light print when printing from the PC, refer to solution: "When I print a document from my computer, the text is gray, dull, light or faded instead of black.  What can I do?"

-         Light print when making copies, refer to solution:  "How can I improve my Brother machine's copy quality?" 


 

3. Perform a User Reset Purge of the affected color. 

a.    Press MENU, BLACK START, MENU. The LCD will display "0 MAINTENANCE" letting you know you are in Maintenance Mode.  If the display does not say "0 MAINTENANCE", press STOP/EXIT and repeat this step.

b.    Press 7, 6, 5 on the keypad. The LCD will display "uRESET__P ALL".

-         If the affected color is Black, press the RIGHT ARROW key 1 time until the display says "uRESET__P Black"

-         If one or more of the 3 colors (Yellow, Cyan or Magenta) are affected, press the RIGHT ARROW key to select  "uRESET _P Magenta" or "uRESET__P Cyan" or "uRESET__P Yellow".

-         If Black and any color (Yellow, Cyan or Magenta) are affected press the RIGHT ARROW key to select " uRESET__P ALL".

c.    Press BLACK START. The machine will begin a cleaning cycle.

d.    Once the cleaning cycle has completed, print another Print Quality Check Sheet: 

                      i.        Press MENU.

 

                     ii.        Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to select Ink and press OK.

 

                    iii.        Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to select Test Print and press OK.

 

                   iv.        Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to select Print Quality and press OK.

 

                    v.        Press the COLOR START key. A Print Quality Check Sheet will be printed.

 

 

-         If all the dashes are clear, visible and vivid as shown above, press 1 for YES. The issue is resolved.  

-         If all of the dotted lines are in place, but the lines are dull and NOT vivid as shown above, press the STOP/EXIT key and continue to STEP 4. 

4. Perform a Power Purge of the affected color.     

a.    Does the machine display INK LOW or CANNOT PRINT?

-         If the date and time is displayed with no error messages, continue to STEP 4b.

-         If the display does say INK LOW or CANNOT PRINT, refer to WARRANTY AND SERVICE OPTIONS

b.    Press MENU, BLACK START, MENU. The LCD will display "0 MAINTENANCE" letting you know you are in Maintenance Mode.  If the display does not say "0 MAINTENANCE", press STOP/EXIT and repeat this step.

c.    Press 7, 6, 3 on the keypad.  The LCD will display "POWER__P ALL".

-         If the affected color is Black, press the RIGHT ARROW key one time to display "POWER__P Black" in the top, left corner of the LCD display.

-         If one or more of the 3 colors (Yellow, Cyan or Magenta) are affected, press the RIGHT ARROW key until the top, left corner displays the affected color: "POWER__P Magenta" or "POWER__P Cyan" or "POWER__P Yellow".

-         If Black and any color combination (Yellow, Cyan or Magenta) are affected press select "POWER__P ALL". 

d.    Press BLACK START. The machine will begin a cleaning cycle.

e.    Once the cleaning cycle has completed print another Print Quality Check Sheet: 

                      i.        Press MENU.

                     ii.        Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to select Ink and press OK.

                    iii.        Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to select Test Print and press OK.

                   iv.        Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to select Print Quality and press OK.

                    v.        Press the COLOR START key. A Print Quality Check Sheet will be printed.

-         If all the dashes are clear, visible and vivid as shown above, press 1 for YES.  The issue is resolved. 

-         If a USER RESET and a POWER purge have been performed and the print quality has not improved, continue to WARRANTY AND SERVICE OPTIONS
