How do I configure the wireless printer using the control panel?

Description of Solution 200000047337

IMPORTANT NOTE BEFORE YOU BEGIN:

Configuring the wireless printer using the control panel is not the preferred setup method.  It may be difficult to enter your network name or network security key (password) using the UP and DOWN ARROW keys on the control panel.

We recommend using your computer and a USB cable to temporarily configure the wireless printer on your network. Refer to Wireless Setup Methods

If you prefer to configure the wireless printer using the control panel, follow the instructions below:

1.    Gather the following wireless network settings of your access point or router.  Refer to the access point's user guide for instructions on accessing the network settings information.

SSID or Network Name

The name of your Wireless Network or Access Point

Network Security Key (Password)

Encryption Key, WEP Key, Passphrase

IMPORTANT:  Some access points and routers have both a primary and guest network.  Guest networks allow access to the network Internet connection, but restricts direct access to the network.  The Brother machine should be setup on the primary network and not the guest network.

If your wireless access point or router does not broadcast the SSID, you will also need the following information for your wireless network.

Authentication Method

Open System, Shared Key, WPA/WPA2-PSK*

Encryption Mode

None, WEP, TKIP, AES

*NOTE: The Brother machine only supports WPA2-PSK with AES.  If you are using WPA2-PSK with TKIP you will receive a connection error.

If you do not have the network settings information or cannot find this information, refer to the solutions below:

Other OS Users: Contact your router manufacturer or Network Admin to verify the following:

-      Network Security Settings requested in STEP 1.  We recommend you verify the settings from the actual Router Configuration Interface.  Do not simply rely on information printed on the Router or Access Point.

-      Verify that DHCP is assigned on the access point so that it will automatically assign an IP address to the machine.

-      Verify that the Router is not configured to use access security such as MAC Address filtering.
