Be weary of Scanning photos
August 13, 2015
By Chenke from Cincinnati, OH
Photo scanning software is terrible. Scanner hardware is terrible. It will leave lines and extreme contrast that isn't actually in the picture. Customer Support was not at all helpful. They have many ways of saying "we can't really help you".The resolution: buy another product.

I have had printers in the past, but this is my first All-in-One. I chose the Brother MFC-J890DW after doing research reading other people's reviews, and also taking into account the number of cartridges a machine needs.

The first machine I received was a nightmare. I spent several hours trying to set it up and called tech support. Tech support informed me that it is not printing because I am "not using Brother paper." That did it and I decided to send it back. An Amazon Customer Service person, however, recommended that I might exchange it for another one because the first may have been a lemon. I decided to do that.

My second/current machine was easy to set up and to use. I have had it for a short time, and I like it.

Good and Bad
August 11, 2015

First of all, it was an inexpensively priced purchase.
I was able to install it quite easily, even though the instructions are for the pits. As for quality......the paper tray is the biggest piece of junk I've ever seen.
Every time I have to take it in or out, I think that it won't survive the handling.

I wanted to be able to print on printable CDs, but the program that has to be used with it, won't work for my purpose. I have a very nice disk printing program (an old Roxio program) and it won't work with this printer. WISH THAT IT DID, SO I CAN FINALLY TRY OUT THAT FUNCTION. I print labels for opera recordings, and there is no proper style to use in your program, that will allow me a place for name of opera, composer, company that is performing and the entire cast.

The colors that it prints are a bit "odd". They look
slightly washed out.

The fact that you have to take out the regular paper to use the photo paper, is totally silly. It should be
interchangeable, and not have to go to all that trouble, every time you want to print a photo.
