jams can result from a variety of causes. One of the most common problems is the
type of paper used in the machine. Please verify that the paper being used meets
the recommended paper specifications:

the paper meets these specifications and PAPER JAM indications are still
occurring, please follow these steps:
Turn off the Brother machine using the On/Off switch located on the lower right
Pull the paper tray, located in the bottom-front of the machine, completely
Remove any crinkled or damaged sheets and discard them.
Remove any paper remaining in the tray.
There are two blue paper guides located on the either side of the paper tray.
These guides are used to adjust the tray to fit the width of the paper. Squeeze
the paper guide located on the right side of the tray to make any necessary
adjustments. Check that the guides are firmly in the slots located on the bottom
of the tray.
The blue plastic paper guide located in the center back of the tray is used to
adjust for the length of the paper. Squeeze the paper guide and adjust to fit
the length of the paper. Verify that the guide has locked into place.
using legal size paper you must first extend the tray in the back, press the
blue guide release button located on the right rear side of the tray and pull
the back of the tray out.
Put the paper in the paper tray. The side to be printed on must be face
down. The paper tray can up to 250 sheets (20 lb. paper)
Reinstall the paper tray firmly back in the Brother machine.
Remove the tray once again to verify that the rear guide has not slipped when
the tray was installed. If it has slipped set it back in place and repeat the
tray installation process. Check again to see if it has slipped. If the rear tab
will not remain seated securely, please contact our Customer Service Center at

Reinstall the paper tray.
Press the cover release button located in the front of the machine below the
Output Tray Support Flap and extension and opens the front cover.
Remove the drum assembly by lifting it slightly and pulling it out. If the drum
does not come out easily skip to step 20.
With the drum assembly removed pull any jammed paper up and out of the Brother
Remove the toner from the drum by holding down the lock lever (blue tab) on the
right side of the drum assembly and lift the toner out.
Handle the toner cartridge carefully. If toner scatters on hands or
clothing, immediately wipe it off or wash it with cold water.
Remove any small pieces of paper jammed inside the drum.

be stuck in the drum.
Reinstall the toner into the drum. The blue lever on the right side will lift if
the cartridge is positioned properly.
Reinstall the drum assembly into the machine.
Close the front cover, pressing firmly on each side until the cover clicks into
Open the output tray located in the back of the machine.
Pull out any jammed paper.
If you are unable to clear the jam, open the Black Jam Clear Cover located at
the bottom of the fuser unit. There are two rectangular slots located on the
cover. To open it, place you finger in the larger slot located on the left
side and slide the cover to the left and press it down.
There are two blue pressure release levers, one on each side of the fuser
unit. Pull these back and down to release the pressure roller inside the
fuser unit and allow the paper to slide out freely.
After removing the jam, push the Jam Clear Cover back in position by lifting it

Close the back output tray.
Power the machine back on.
Test by making a copy. Place a document face down in the ADF. Press the
COPY mode key located below the LCD display and press
the problem continues and your machine is within warranty, you can locate a
