How do I clear white horizontal lines on printed documents?

Brother strongly recommends that you do not refill the ink cartridges provided with your machine. We also strongly recommend that you continue to use only Genuine Brother Brand replacement ink cartridges. Use or attempted use of potentially incompatible ink and/or cartridges in the Brother machine may cause damage to the machine and/or may result in unsatisfactory print quality. Our warranty coverage does not apply to any problem that is caused by the use of unauthorized third-party ink and/or cartridges. STEP A:  PRINT QUALITY TEST SHEET AND PRINT HEAD CLEANING

 

1. Press INK.

 

2. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to select Test Print.

 

3. Press OK.

 

4. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW keys to select Print Quality.

 

5. Press OK.

 

6. Press COLOR START.

 

7. Check the print quality of the four-color blocks that are formed by short diagonal lines.

 

8. The display will read, "IS QUALITY OK?”

 

a. If all the lines are clear and visible, press 1. (YES). 

 

-         Make a copy or print the document that had shown poor print quality. 

-         If the print quality is still poor continue to STEP B: CHECKING THE PRINT ALIGNMENT listed below. 

 

b. If you can see missing short lines in any of the four-color blocks press 2.  (NO).

 

-         The LCD will ask you if the print quality is OK for black and the three colors (example "BLACK OK"?)

-         If the short lines are clear and visible (not missing lines) press the 1.  (YES). 

-         If you can see missing short lines, press 2.  (NO).

 

-         The LCD will then read "START CLEANING? 1.YES 2. NO". Press 1.(YES) and the Brother machine will start cleaning the print head.

 

-         After the cleaning is finished, the LCD will read “PRESS START.  Press the COLOR START key. The machine will print another Print Quality Check Sheet. The display will return to "IS QUALITY OK" 1. YES 2. NO".

 

c. Check the print quality of the four-color blocks that are formed by short diagonal lines.

 

-         If the four-color blocks are OK continue to STEP B: CHECKING THE PRINT ALIGNMENT listed below.

 

-         If you can see missing short lines in any of the four-color blocks press the DOWN ARROW key (NO) and repeat the quality check and cleaning process, STEPS 8b and c.

 

Repeat this procedure at least 5 times. If ink is still missing after the fifth cleaning and test print, replace the necessary ink cartridges.  Follow the instructions listed below for replacing the ink cartridges; STEP C: REPLACING THE INK CARTRIDGES.

 

STEP B: CHECKING THE PRINT ALIGNMENT

 

1. Press INK.

 

2. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to select Test Print.

 

3. Press OK.

 

4. Use the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to select Alignment.

 

5. Press OK.

 

6. Press COLOR START.

 

7. Check the 600 dpi and 1200 dpi test print to see if number 5 most closely matches number 0.

 

-         If the number 5 sample of both the 600 dpi and 1200 dpi are the best matches, press 1 (yes) to finish the Alignment Check and go to STEP 8.

 

OR

 

-         If another test print number is a better match for either 600 dpi or 1200 dpi press 2 (No) to select it.

 

-         For 600 dpi, press the number of the test print that most closely matches the number 0 sample (1-8).

 

-         For 1200 dpi, press the number of the test print that most closely matches the number 0 sample (1-8).

 

8. Press STOP/EXIT.

 

9. Test by printing another Print Quality Check Sheet. Refer to STEP A:  PRINT QUALITY TEST SHEET AND PRINT HEAD CLEANING

 

 

STEP C: REPLACING THE INK CARTRIDGE(S)

 

1. Open the ink cartridge cover.

 

2. Push the lock release levers down and remove all four ink cartridges.

 

3. Open the new ink cartridge bag for the color shown on the LCD, and then take out the ink cartridge.

 

4. Turn the green knob on the protective yellow cap clockwise to release the vacuum seal and then remove the cap.

 

5. Each color has its own correct position. Insert the ink cartridge in the direction of the arrow on the label.

 

6. Gently push the ink cartridge in until it clicks, and then close the ink cartridge cover.

 

7. The machine will automatically reset the ink level and return to Date and time.

 

8. Test by printing another Print Quality Check Sheet. Refer to STEP A: PRINT QUALITY TEST SHEET AND PRINT HEAD CLEANING
