How do I clear the "Out of Memory" message from my Brother machine's display?

Description of Solution 200000040407

Is the message appearing on the Transmission Verification Report when sending a fax?

Example: Poor Line Condition / Out of Memory

- If yes, refer to the solution -What does "Result: NG" mean on the Transmission Verification Report?

- If no, the "Out of Memory" message means your Brother machine's memory is full.

The amount of memory used depends on the amount or type of data on the documents being faxed, copied, or printed from the PC.

NOTE: Memory is based on industry standard 5% page coverage of an 8-1/2" x 11" test document.  If the document being scanned has more than 5% coverage, it will use more memory.  Documents with graphics and/or color will use more memory as well.

There are different times when the "Out of Memory" message may appear on your Brother machine's display, such as when you scan faxes into memory, make multiple copies, or print from a PC.

To clear the "Out of Memory" message, follow these steps:

If the "Out of Memory" message appears when you are trying to send a fax or make a copy:

1. If the "Out of Memory" message appears when you are scanning the first page of a fax or copy job, press the STOP/EXIT key to cancel the job.

If the "Out of Memory" message appears when you are scanning a subsequent page, do one of the following:

- Press the START key to send or copy the pages you have scanned so far.

OR

- Press the STOP/EXIT key to cancel the job.

2. If the "Out of Memory" message continues to appear, you should clear some jobs from your Brother machine's memory.

To cancel fax jobs in memory, follow these steps:

a. Press MENU, 2 (Fax), 7 (Remaining Jobs).

- Your Brother machine's LCD will display the number of print jobs waiting to be sent.

- If there are no jobs in memory, the LCD will read "No Jobs Waiting."

b. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to scroll through the waiting jobs.

c. Press the OK key to select the job you want to cancel.

d. Press 1 to cancel the job.

e. Press the STOP/EXIT key.

3. Check your Brother machine's Remote Fax Options setting.

When Remote Fax Options-Fax Forwarding, Paging, Fax Storage, and PC Faxing-are on, your Brother machine will automatically store copies of all incoming faxes into memory.  This reduces your Brother machine's available memory for other functions.

a. If you want to continue using Remote Fax Options, print any faxes stored in the Brother machine's memory by following these steps:

i. Press MENU, 2 (Fax), 5 (Remote Fax Opt), 3 (Print Fax).

ii. Press the START key.

iii. Press the STOP/EXIT key.

b. If you want to turn your Brother machine's Remote Fax Options off, follow these steps:

i. Press MENU, 2 (Fax), 5 (Remote Fax Opt), 1 (Fwd/Page/Store).

ii. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to select Off.

iii. Press the OK key.

If there are any faxes in your Brother machine's memory when you turn Remote Fax Options off, you will be prompted to erase all faxes.

iv. Press 1 to select Yes.

v. Press the STOP/EXIT key.

If the "Out of Memory" message still appears:

There may be a problem with your Brother machine's scanner.

If there is a problem with the scanner, documents scanned into your Brother machine's memory may be scanned as black or gray images, which will use more memory.

To test the Brother machine's scanner, follow these steps:

1. Press the COPY key to illuminate it.

2. Place a blank sheet of white paper into the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) face down, top edge first.

3. Press the START key.

- The copy should be a blank sheet of paper just like the original document.

- If the copy is black or gray, or if the "Out of Memory" error continues to appear and your machine is within warranty, you can locate a Brother Authorized Service Center (ASC) in your area by clicking on the link below:
